Big shouts out to HyperTF for taking some piccies cos my digicams still on hols. Will get some more up sometime...
Hey Eek... Like my fire extinguisher?

Muahaha

And yes I realise there is only one sub there... In the process of sorting that out. Thinking of changing to DD1012's. Suffice to say, I got what I wanted out of SQ. Want some SQL. (Just joking, still gonna compete in sq, just want some loud sq.) :)

Maybe I'll put a fish tank in the other box ???

Peace

Looks awesome dude. Well, half awesome, half..empty. Love the fishtank idea!
:bowrofl:

Does it fill all of the "stepped-in" section of the boot (if you know what I mean?) What would be the minimum depth of boot you'd have to lose, to fit a sub in there?

i like your setup mate, cant wait to see it in the flesh !

the fire extinguisher, was it hard to get ? and pricey ?

cos im putting a cap in my boot, and ive been told they like to arc up in flames !
so i think ill get a F.E incase !

tks guys...

Ice Magik - Dont bother with a cap. In all honesty you will not need it, they only solve dimming lights and add a lot more problems with fires etc. They are just a bandaid solution.
If you are having problems with power try:
Bigger and shorter ground wires at amps
Upgrade wires to 2 or 0 gauge
Upgrade battery to Optima Yellowtop or Odyssey
Upgrade ground wire at battery to 2 or 0 gauge
Worst case (Unlikely) dual battery setup.

A cap is a waste of money imo (except for looks).
I got my F.E From my laundry... lol So when theres a fire in the house. At least I can rest assured my car will be fine... I need an extinguisher for comps.

Zaphod - By stepped in area, do you mean the area in between the wheel arches? Or the area so you can still get access to the spare?
If wheel arches, yes the mini-wall butts up against that. You could get away with smaller, but I think it's neat this way. Also a lot of room for my amps on the side and top of the box.
And room for wiring etc.

Peace

:S whats the deal with fire extinguishers... woolies sell em for 21$ :D

nice install... :D
but can you access the spare?

s_tim_ulate
16-05-2005, 01:31 PM
Physically... yes I can get to the spare.

It just takes a bit longer than everyone else

If I want to keep the current install i think I can just make a piano hinge on the stock false floor. Then I can just bend that up. This may give me enough room to get to it easily.

I don't go through too many tires though *Knock wood*And if I have to take the install apart on a rainy night in the middle of nowhere whilst fighting off gangs then so be it.

Will let you know when it happens.

STFU, I want a fire extinguisher!!

Yeah, what is the sub in it right now? two seperate chambes aren't they?? what'd u use glass or perspex? perspex sucks :P

i say go the dd...go dd!! get a single 9510 or something :D But yeah, a coffee machine, pop corn machine, fish tank, extra glove box or mini fridge would be suitable uses for the other chamber :P

Are teh soundstream amps in there somewhere?

Yes dual sealed enclosures, the glow is accentuated by the white vinyl which really brings it to life. THeres also some embossing with ZR at the base of each box.
(if anyone wants to do embossing use a mouse pad, just cut it up and vinyl over it)

The box has glass over it, perspex scratches easy. :p

Couldnt fit both soundstreams in there, and didnt need the extra channels for comps (Rears are unplugged for SQ and only used one sub.) When I sort out what I want to do I will have to fit the other SoundStream in there. They are so big they couldnt fit on top of the box with enough room to breath, thats why there's the little platform on the top of the box as the amp rests over the lip and sits in there.

Currently funds arent there to go the two 3512's but really want to see how DD's go for SQ apparently they are an awesome SQ sub that happens to be loud. I'm still yet to see any compete. (Will get back to you with results and either have more trophies or a couple of subs for sale ;))

Actually, good idea eek, i have one of those little 12v fridges in my room, I might have just found a use for it. I chuck all my cd's in the other box now

5 o clock - Home time for me :)

Peace

omg, not a mouse pad! lol When i get time and money i shall rebuild a box for my 15 and see how could sound quality can really get :doubt: but yeah, front loading really did give pretty good sq huh? I like the inside of ur sub box

oh, and for amps on top of sub boxes dont doo it. I originally sold my amp to michaelhaynes110 on here, and he returned it saying it caused him alternator noise. I got some time on teh weekend to check stuff out and see if it was true, and when I took a look, the solder joins on the circuit board to the rca's had sorta loosened off from when i had my amp screwed onto the back of my old sub box.

So yeah, build an extra rack for it with rubber feet or something.

would the amps fit, sorta diagonally across? as in one each corner of the boot angled to the centre? build a rack and have 'em stack up on top of each other?

what about amps that state on the warranty that an extra battery must be instaled for every d-class amp ? cant you just put a cap in instead ?

Hey. I think you've said this before. Was it one of your crossfire amps? I'm pretty damned sure you don't need two batteries if you decided to have two amps. Magna alternators are pretty damn beefy, and you'd need a fair bit of power to need a second battery. Though, its always good to upgrade your current battery to something from optima etc.

well, honestly, i don't think u would need one unless it had a blue display or a bright LED and gold/platinum fixtures!! lol

well, really, its up to you. if ur headlights dim, and the cap fixes the problem and you're happy, then let it be..... OR you can send it back and save up for a beefy battery instead of the band-aid solution and be even happier!

do u get a full refund if u send it back?

it has satin nickel terminals ... whatever that means but does has a blue readout and was a 1.5 farad cap

my whole install is back up in the air now :(

and yes i can get a full refund cause i have'nt paid for it yet :)

Eek- Re: Rear loading. I miss rear loading, I feel the bass is really lacking. The actual bass component of SQ is only 10/150 so doesnt account for much, but it also brings down my overall linearity.

Im definetly loosing a lot of low end extension that previously came through rear loading. May have to seal the mini-wall up better, but for now I will still recommend rear loading for Magna boots.

You Should have thought of this when you designed your Set up..

I set mine up so when you pull down the Ski Port you could see the subs in all their glory..
Up side is you will have less boot rattles.

s_tim_ulate
17-05-2005, 04:37 PM
Yep but only one way to learn... And i like to test things out.
I'd never used a mini-wall before anyway.

I thought it would be a much easier way than deadening the entire boot as I noticed there were heaps of rattles coming from under the car itself when the subs were going.

Not to worry, Still playing around with it. :)

But the boot is significantly quiter compared to rear loading with no deadener.

mm, yeah, the only and best way is to test it out ;) I was thinking of building a box with a glass front and a glass window at the back, placed exactly over the ski port, so you could see the back of my sub, and the front would still glow. I ended up ditchign it idea...too much work, and precision cutting, not to mention the insides of the box would have to be immaculate etc etc.

Imagine getting a piece of 18mm laminated glass with a 14" diameter cut out and 8 holes drilled into it perfectly and used as a baffle...mmm

you can get normal red fire extinguishers for like less then $30 from repco and autobahn, you can also get chrome ones with look pretty sweet, but they like nearly $100

Poita

Im confused with this rear loading of the sub... does this mean the sub is facing the ski port and firing into the back seat?
Or is it facing the back of the car and firing at the number plate?
Which one produces the most boot rattle?
Which one produces the most bass?
Cheers
Pete

P.S. I looove your instal tim!! Looks sshmic!

s_tim_ulate
10-06-2005, 10:29 AM
tks man...

Rear loading is facing the number plate. It introduces an effect called cabin gain, which is an increase in response when firing a sub into a confined space or a corner/wall. This will increase ur lower level response so will be louder, but also can introduce lag and time delay.

This will equate to more boot rattles.

But if you havent sealed off the boot firing through the ski port will usually result in cancellation which will lower ur output and quality.

So I'd go with rear loading for most applications.

Peace

Tim
