How do you reset the ecu. Someone said disconnect battery for 20 mins then drive or overnight?

this is a dodgey way to do it but yes its how it works, if you have money mitsubishi have this tool (M.U.T.) to reset it and fiddle with the idle speed control?? On your verada as its auto you'd need to go for a drive and help your auto trans computer to relearn when to change gears, manuals it doesnt really change much, disconnect it for a second and it should reset but i'd leave it for longer

in my manual V6, i had it disconnected for about half an hour (working on the car), and when i reconnected it, it refused to idle. the revs would keep dropping until the thing stalled

you have a problem then i'm not electrically orientated so i can't really help you soz mate
check all connections and go round with those ammeter/voltmeter things they are good for finding problems in electrics???

The question begs to be asked...why do you want to reset it? It doesnt actually do much you know...resetting it after mods etc is an old wives tail and can actually make it take longer to learn the new mods than if you just leave it.

the only reason i disconnected it was i had to remove the instrument cluster to fix my speedo (was reading low), and i didnt want the airbag going off when my head was right in front of it

Killbilly it does help such things as fuel consumption by clearing any ammendments the computer makes to compensate for such things as quality of fuel etc.
Say for example that the computer has been compensating for cold weather and adding more or less fuel to the engine at certain points on the mapping. By resetting the ECU you have elimated this compensation.
Well... thats my theory at least lol
To reset the computer disconnect the battery ( -ve terminal please people) and stand on the brake pedal. This drains any current in the circuit with a inductive load. Reconnect and go for a drive. That is drive normally.
Notice the difference?

No it's an old wives tale mate...it doesnt actually help anything. You should *never* have to reset the ECU.
The ECU uses the data from the sensors to create the optimal settings all the time. The ecu is constantly redoing the settings and updating them, making them better and better from the data from the sensors. If it was adding more fuel at a colder temp because of more dense air, it will then change it later when there is less dense air...when it detects it, it changes it accordingly and stores these values. It's constantly changing. If you reset the ecu...it has nothing to fall back on and has to work from default values which then it needs to recollect data and start it's fine tuning alllll over again. This is why when you reset an ECU it takes time before it runs smoothly again.
So by resetting an ecu you can effectively make it take longer to learn new mods than if you left it alone.
Resetting an ECU is an old wives tale and does nothing of any real worth.

:stoopid: , i have also found that after disconnecting the battery you have to leave the car to idle for over 10mins so it can properly relearn the idle settings, or you will get the stalling issue mentioned in a post above.
