hey guys im performing a 5 speed conversion to my TM elite and im worried about something.. the box is hard up against the X member! this is because there is no engine mount on the box yet BUT.. BUTTT... when i jack the motor up to its normal position
as if it had the mount on it
there is still just about a few mill clearance.. is it just me ir is this RIDICULOUS.. i duno if the engine is twisted coz of the no engine mount thing or if anyone else has done this or noticed it but HELP.. i dont wana get it on the road and be hearing BANG on the x member which will probably smash the box casing
any help will be greatly appriciated
thanx

cross member, you mean the big beam that is under the front of the car that runs in the middle from front to back with the 2 engine mounts on it?
Your gearbox shouldnt really be clos to that at all. I changed my clutch and when taking the box out and replacing it, the crossmember wasnt even a factor.
Take a photo for us?
Are you using a TN or TP box?
They're bigger than the manual box fitted to the TMs (KM210 instead of KM184) hence more room is required.
Does anybody know if the crossmember changed during the TM to TN changeover?

all i know from the fast magna website that has the Original Sleeper on there, that the guy had to make some room for the manual, with some good old body reshaping :P

the x member im talking about is the 1 that goes from side to side and holds the suspension up.. im thinking of bashing it in real good yet i tried using a THOR hammer lol and it didnt work to well.. not even a dent.. so is it confirmed the tp box i have is bigger than the tm box ? if so how much bigger ?
duno wtf im gena do..

stay auto :D
sounds like a really odd thing, be interesting to have stripped engine bay in a tm and tp and compare

staying auto might be a problem as the cars already manual.. the interior isnt put back together yet and its lacking fluids other than that there are minimal bolts missing to make it a complete 5 speed TM elite..

if it's bolted together like a TR is, then get a crossmember from a TN or TP,

It is a good deal bigger. Can't give you dimensional differences, so a new crossmember might be the wise choice.
I wouldn't recommend percussive therapy, might pay to look at the difference between your crossmember and a later model
