Yeah it does at first, but your computer in your car will learn the new flow patterns and then it should be all good. Computer needs 3 complete starts and stops for it to be recalibrated. (ie. bout 15 min drivin time)
Or you can disconect your battery for 20 mins and that will reset the computer as well

um i think i disagree, the mass sensor is there to read the amount of air flow in and supplement with the right amount of fuel, in the gen3's lots of people have cut .2 or so off their quarters with them. In our gen 2's i'm a bit sus though, i'm trying it soon...
on the note i ran a pod filter for a while with no cai and it sucked big balls lost torque might have gained a bit of peak power

Putting a round pod can screw up the air flow and confuse the MAF sensor. This is why K&N make a special oval shaped pod for cars with our kind of MAF sensor. Maybe this is what your mechanic was thinking of.

Note that some people are running round pods without issue, some have problems though.

3rd gen magnas already have CAI because the factory snorkel draws cold oncoming air from over the top of the radiator. But it's crap.. tiny opening, not directly exposed to air, etc. A well planned, smooth, large diameter pipe from the airbox to somewhere with good air exposure can give you up to 6kW ATW even with a panel filter. This has been my experience and is backed up by at least two other people on here.

Something to think about..
