The time has come to replace my stock panel filter with a new one. I was wondering whether the pods were worth getting, considering I would make up a cai and new airbox for it. Is there much of a performance difference between the two?

i think it's different for the gen 2's though, everyone has discussed about gen 3's. On my gen 2 no cai a pod messed with my mas and it ran **** as, while most gen3's run a pod only and they say it's better... two problems with that set up
1) engine bay heat
2) changes a/f ratio through mas, i'm putting on a cai soon and i still have my pod i'll get back to people then.....

i don't think any gen2 cai's have pod incorporated into their set up

That's rite it's all on gen 3's how are you thinking of running your cai? I was thinking that if I was to get a pod I would definately make up a custom box/cai otherwise it's just pointless. If you could give us a yell when you've done the cai, I'd love to hear how it goes. I reakon I'll just get a panel for now and then upgrade to a pod if your cai works. You can be the guinea pig :D

It wouldn't be different. The best result is from an enclosed pod with cool air running directly to it. Period.

It's how to set it up that is different.

As for leaving a pod bare in the engine bay, you're right and a Panel would be better off instead.

But overall the best result is from a sealed pod with cold air running directly to it.
