Hello again!

If you've been following my POD BOX thread keenly you would know that I'd like to keep the unit as stock to look at as possible to avoid unnesessary attention. These four lid designs which will be embossed, keep coming to the front of my design list. I like option #2 personally, it looks good sitting beside the stock tortoise-shell engine cover.

Anyways, I'd like to know what other people are thinking on this, I'd luv to see new designs (remember I have to cut these out of craftwood!!! :doubt: ) - but most importantly I'd like to see which of these 4 is the most popular.

So please "Poll Away"!

I like #1 and #2, but like #2 a bit better. Would be happy with either though! :D
#3 and #4 dont do it for me.

Keep up the work mate! And yes I will be getting a TB of you eventually!! lol By the time I get around to it the box will probably be finished and you can ship it in that to save on freight! :bowrofl:

Cheers
Pete

I thought I'd put AMC or some styled variation of it on the box somewhere - just inconspicuous enuf to keep the Cops off our backs.

Showed the preliminary sketches and mould to the Man today and he's impressed. Said it'll come out sic! He's a fellow rev-head as it turns out - old monaro man. Got another 20hours of mould making to go!

Still need some more designs!! I might be able to do custom 1-off lids if there's a market for it but it'll be extra of course. Just thinking aloud...

I hope you havent answered this already but only cos I am interested in Plastics manufacturing (my first career) what are you making the mould out of?

It's a great project mate... hope it's not costing you an arm and a leg.

p.s. I was one of clearly many that picked number 2 lol

The finished product can be painted - if you want to do it - but only one colour can be moulded onto the mould. A sheet of plastic is heater and lowered over the mould, vacuum is used to 'pull' the plastic around the mould and hey-presto, it's all done. Lot of money for not a lot of time in the cooker. But what can you do??

The boxes will be black for the basis item, but I can mould next to ANY colour I'm led to believe. So if you have painted rocker covers or another theme going, let me know and I'll price it when you order.

I have been given a literal pile of craftwood to make the mould up with. Use PVC and screws to hold it all together. Aeromodellers use foam, so do bumper makers/fibreglassers. Bunbury Motor Sports can probably point you in the right direction, Simon is a top bloke with a lot of knowledge so search him for some info.

Thanks for that mate yeah I made a few moulds like that when I was doing my traineeship.... he he next question... what plastic will you be using? PVC or ABS? or other... PVC is good with fire retardant qualities, but ABS (rubber modified) is your a-typical automotive plastic usually... sorry it's 20 questions but I find it interesting if you don't mind answering.

I think the guy recommended ABS. I will reconvene monday or tuesday to show him my mould and get final touches made before the first burn.

I have the moulds adjustable to accept ANY size inlet CAI pipe.
