I'm now loooking at alternatives to King Springs low, as I would like to go lower than 30-35mm/1.5". Around 40-50mm would be good. 30mm in my opinion isn't worth it. I have seen my car (standard height) sitting next to a kings low fitted model of same type and I liked what I saw, but would like to go lower.

What effect (if any) would lowering have on my CV joints and drive shafts?

Have noticed that lovells do a Super Low for the front of a TS and Sport Lows for the front and rear. This is current as of the latest Lovell catalogue. The Super Lows are 45mm to 65mm lower than stock and the Sport Lows are 25-40mm lower.

Dobinson Springs: Killbilly, can you give me a bit more info on these?

Whiteline Springs: 25-40mm 'Control' Series

Cheers!

i have kings superlows in mine and i couldn't ask for more in terms of height, it is perfect for me, back is fairly even with the wheel and front is just (1-2cm) above...you can't get superlows for gen 3's (back anyway) but check with anthony from phillycom rally to see if they still do them for gen 2's

Dobinsons, made in QLD. Been around since 1953, thats about all the info I can find on them.

They seem to be extremely popular in 4WD circles. But also in the street car scene too, just do a google search and you'll find heaps of cars with them

KB, yeah, I saw all the 4WD's and wondered what the deal was.

Just a few more questions before I get springs off Anthony:

1. Does anyone see any problems with going superlow in the front and low in the rear?
2. What would clearance be like over dish drains and speed humps?
3. Would I be able to fit 17" mags if I do lower? Obviously I would roll the guards, but apart from that, any other issues?
4. What effect will lowering (especially the superlows) have on my CV joints (which I know to be in reasonable condition)?
5. Will clearance between the body and the ground be over 100mm if I do go s/l front low rear? Asking for legal reasons.

Can't think of any other questions at the moment, cheers to everyone for taking time to help.

as stated i have superlows front and back-->2.5inch drop, clearance is well over 100mm but i scrap those shopping car park strips i'm about 5inches off the ground i think...
i have 17's and they rub a bit at full lock but nothing that makes me worry
speed humps are fine drains -->don't know what you mean....
i don't think it'd have any adverse effects on your cv's...mine are fine but i split boots regularly.
i have never been pulled over in my car and i have superlow front and back (only for set up breathe test) it's a magna...spose rural town but.....

hrrrm, split boots huh. Damn, I got a dirt road. Lowering would only expose the CV's to more dirt. So mayhaps lowering isn't going to be good for my CV's after all.

Dont know what to do.

Oh and a dish drain goes like this ------------\________/------------ (side on view)

(with --- representing the road - basically a big dip in the road to channel off water)

OK, worked out what I'm going to do.

Will get the cv boots checked out tomorrow, if they are split I'll replace them and then order superlows for the front and lows for the rear. My cv's do not knock or bang and therefore I proabaly won't have any trouble.

If however, the cv boots are split and it turns out that the cv joint and or driveshaft needs replacing, well, lowering will have to er... wait for a while :doubt:

nah split cv boots are random, obvious when they go, grease all over mags, i don't think its related to my dumpedness.....100$ to pay mechanic to fix, i've had 2 go in 5 months one went pretty much as soon as i bought the car but it's all good now, i had a universal cv boot split straight away put magna one on-->she's apples, you'll be fine....dirt roads are the devil scratch up my 10 year old clear coat

you should be able to notice if a boot's gone before damage happens to cv's but yeah just dump it....they look sex when dumped

I talked to my mechanic today and he said that lowering wouldn't be an issue re damaging CV joint/splitting boots.

He said that he'd be more worried about the sump scraping and that if anything, the CV's would most likely be a candidate for damage if raising was performed and that the angle was like this _/. He has experience in 4WD lifting, so I trust his comments.

On another interesting note, I was told that a new drive shaft a CV unit would be $175 a side.
So basically everything needed to do a full driveshaft a CV replacement, excluding labour.

Sweet, might need that later on :D

So, pending a quick call to the insurance company I should have a fully slammed magna belting about.
