View Full Version : Is it just me??
Ive bought my 6x9's and 6" speakers, but on a totally different matter, is there a space on the parcel shelf to install a subby?? I was looking at my parcel shelf and it looks like there is a space.
yeh there is room to mount a 10" sub....dunno why u'd bother though.

u mean that circle under the parcel shelf?
i wouldn't dare touch it, cut it or anything. plus subs that would fit in there would sound like ass. Small, free air subs on the same panel as ur 69s....
hell, its worse than fried pickles in soy sauce and yoghurt. its like chunky warm sour milk with anchovies wasabi and carrots :doubt:

Pretty sure there's only room for an 8" sub, free air.
Im not going to put anything there, i was just shocked with the descovery.

Yeah I noticed it too, and wondered what it was supposed to be for.

A freeair sub really isn't all that bad...
I just wouldn't be putting it there - main reason is that cutting out the metal in the parcel tray requires engineering (as you change the structural strength of the vehicle).
I ended up fitting a freeair 12" firing through the ski port - it was mounted on 16mm MDF that was bolted quite securely to the rear of the seat supports.
Shakes the car quite a bit, and never moves around in the boot (unlike a sub box).
Also means you keep the boot a lot bigger, which is a bonus when you have to carry a lot of crap around all of the time :P

8 inch Free air is about the only thing that would fit.. The Magnet Structure of a 10 would hit something.. 8inch free Air's work good , just look at Ford Fairlanes and Lexus LS400 They sound great for a stock system..
If anyone has money to burn and doesn't mind building a new Parcell shelf and likes a Not over Bassy system.. it Could work... But since 6x9's have roughly the same Cone space an
8inch sub.. it would only be there to enhance them...

Much more to bass than cone area though. Most home theater subs are tiny.
A 6x9 is essentially a full range speaker. It struggles to play any sub frequencies. Even midbass is distorted.
You can buy many good 8" subs. Would be a good idea if weight reduction was important, but hard to find a 8" sub that works well free air. Could work using AP mats...

Yeah but home theatre Subs are in Tuned Enclosures.. Therefore not free air, so as Far as the Free Air Side of things go , Cone Space to Cone Space there is little difference..
