Hey guys
Got the DD's in finally, after running them in for 20 hours.
First impressions... Unbeleivable. I can't beleive how deep and low these play.
Bass response is very deep, almost seems too deep. But I think thats just because my ears had adjusted to the Alpine 12" which had very little low end extension. The DD's Also very tight and natural. And blend in very well with the fronts.
The bet paid off, Going for a sub with the lowest resonant frequency I could find that was suited to sealed boxes best.
The sub itsef has the most boring motor and basket. Plain black with no text or anything. (The sleeper look) The front looks very nice though.
Unfortunately my box was built to show off so it doesnt really suit. But for the moment it sounds good so that's all that matters.
As for amplification. I've been building an amp rack for the other soundstream picasso. The 2 dd's are only running off 220 watts rms. And with that they are very loud. I didnt actually realise how loud they were until I had them pumping at the cruise today and noticed the sound really travelled.
I still have the other soundstream to go in, but am contemplating not doing it. The only reason I would need it is to go from 220 w rms, to 880 w rms. At the moment they are deafening even at low volumes.
But the other amp means I can amp my rear fill with 110 w rms Have been happily enjoying the Morels with no rear fill for a while now though so still requires some evaluation of the finances.
Decisions decisions...
Peace
Tim

How much do these cost? Thinking about upgrading the Alpine Type "S" subs i have. I want something with a very, very low frequency response.

Ralliart 410: Those entry level 1012's are only RRP$249
300WRMS nominal but they can handle lots more. Interesting dude. They may make the best entry level sub list.
Mr_Pineapple: You actually do more damage listening to the other end of the spectrum. Dont hear of many people going deaf from thunderclaps, jet engines as much as machinery like saws and drills.
BLKMAG: Sure can but why would you want to, i like my boston, people look at it and go aha cause its plain black... they dont expect much and then the hear the might stallion roar :bowrofl:
Eek: Yeah well you should take more care with DD subs, you are forever fixing your car from your boooming basssssss. :D

Tim no rear fill and 880WRMS for the subs.... its all about respect :bowrofl:
What size box are they in?

Rear fill is essential for Cruising with Mates...All they can hear is the subs and it sounds bad from the back seat..
Even if you just wired in a Set of Tweeters or something
I am sure you will come up with some way to Bling the DD Magnets, like Maybe AMC Stickers on the Cast or at least something you can show off..
My Friend illuminated his Sub Box with Dark light and Stuck Glow in the Dark Stars on the back of his plain and Boring Subs.. During the day it was not all that good looking but at night in the Carpark his Car boot really stood out well... Wish I had taken a photo...

Yeah i have rear fill just not plugged in. More avenue for engine noise in competitions. Have some JBL 6x9's.
Could use the headunit outs but want to high pass them and cant be bothered buying a cap for them when i have so many amps.
yes the DD1012's are only $249 rrp. Very cheap. They dont advertise and dont waste money putting crap on their subs so all ur money goes into sub design and construction. Unfortunately only one retailer in Aust.
Also happy to give people a listen in Victoria at the next cruise. Just come and jump in go for ur life.
Will have more of the boot deadened then hopefully. Next comps in a month. Expecting this to give me some extra points cos I got criticised for my lack of low end extension and my muddy bass with the Alpine.
Peace

Greetigns All.
Hey tim...how are ya man...?
You think their 12's will sound just as good as the 10's? do you think a 10 or 12 will run nice off 200W RMS??
Cheers,

I dont want to promote the best place to buy them as I had really bad experiences which I won't bring up here.
Nevertheless you can source them second hand around the place. 4 were sold on CAA for cheap. Be wary of buying ones that are owned by holders of SPL records ;)
Tonba - Hey mate - I initially ran 1 DD1012 off 220 w rms, and it was very nice indeed. They arent that sensitive though, so won't get as loud as many other subs. But for daily driving I think 200w rms will be enough for 1 12". They are rated at 300 w rms. (600 w rms music)
Guys if any of you want to wait a month, There is the next SQ comp on at Show Off. I can get these babies checked for their SQ by some better ears than myself. And probably get you a better critical evaluation of them. Hopefully get an rta onto them before then as well to see response in the Magna
Peace

Good thing is though if you dont like the way the sub sounds in a sealed box, you can always go and port these babies and that will raise there sensitivity up a few db.
I would not recommend getting them from many places however fhrx studios do sell them ( that isn't who tim got his off, well the brand is in black so it says black brands they are sellers for ) and give AMC members 10% off RRP$ :bowrofl:

Awesome... I definetly recommend using Marty from FHRX as a retailer then if anyones interested.
Take advantage of the discount...
