Depends on what you mean by 'better'. Do you want noise or quality? i.e. SQL or SPL?
Im no pro, so dont quote me, but from what I can figure, sealed is a more accurate 'tight' response, but ported will give you a lot more 'doof'
Cheers

This is a heavily debated topic..
A Sealed sub can generate as much Bass as a Ported and a Ported when tuned can give the same results as a Sealed so it comes down to this...

1. Sealed enclosures are generally smaller in size then the equivilent Ported.
2. Ported enclosures have a certain sound to them that appears to give out more Bass..

While it is true that Generic Made enclosures ( one you buy off the shelf) a sealed enclosure will offer a Tighter response ( Dance and Trance, Music with Quick Bass beats) where as Ported can go louder ( Suited to R&B, Rock , music with Lower and slower Bass lines)

SOrry to hijack the thread, aslo is it true that if the box is filled with form or something like it that the bass is better so to speak.

Filling an Enclosure with Dacron or Carpet helps stop the " Boominess" of the enclosure, it stops it from sounding holllow..

It can also fool the sub into thinking it is in a bigger enclosure ( like 0.3cuft ) bigger than what it really is. Excellent :bowrofl:
