Hey,

Ive got a TE 3L non abs maga, Ive changed the CVs but there is still a noise comming from the drivers side wheel. It usually sounds like a washing machine when I go over 70 km. and it theres a big wobble in the stearing when breaking. As it comes and goes it been hard to identify the poblem. So I was wondering could it be the bearings ?

Ive checked the wheel alignment and it straight when its not nocking.

I think I have the same problem. Is it worse when travelling at about 100k's? I've been told that it's probably either my wheel balance is out or I need new bearings.

Yeah same the faster I go, the louder the thumping it, Ive decided give the bearings a go.

I had this problem ages ago and i had it for a long time. Its deffinately the wheel bearings, the cv joints usually only make the noise when your turning. Anyways i must of got ripped off when i got mine done cause i think after installation i paid about 450 from rpw. Cost me about the same for the cvs

Ive picked up the bearings and the cars at the shop. I couldn’t believe it, I though there should have been an inner and an outer, but the mitsu guy behind the counter said they replaced it with one long one.

You will probably find it is a sealed unit thats why it is only one, which means it has to be pressed out, but on the plus side you don't have to pack it with grease.
The majority of cars these days run sealed unit wheel bearings in the front and alot also do in the rear

Don't factor out your tyres. The performance tyres are actually quite noisy once above a certain speed.

Steering wobble on brake application sounds like warped brake rotors to me.

If you haven't rotated your tyres regularly it could be uneven tyre wear. Put the spare on it and take it for a spin.

Hey,

Looks like it was the bearings, I had them changed and drove from melb to albury (300km) and no noise.

I've had this exact same problem for months now and have just had the wheel bearings replaced hoping it'd fix it...but no such luck.

Anyone got a clue as to what could be causing this?

The vibration feels and sounds like a flat tyre or the spin cycle of a washing machine once I get over 80 or so k's. Only happens every so often, perhaps twice a week...but i travel on the highway every day.

The steering wheel vibrates slightly, but once the brake is applied it shakes very strongly and the brake pedal feels firmer.

I can slow down to below 80 and the vibration and noise will go and then can speed up back to 80 and beyond, and most times it won't return.

As I said, I've just replaced the bearings, replaced the CV joints, new tyres, wheel alignment and balance and engine mount in the last few months trying to fix this.

p.s free sexual favours to anyone who fixes this prob ;) :)
