Hey guys, has anyone ever thought of trying a different air box design, from a non-Magna donor car ? Here's an interesting article from autospeed...
http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_0073/article.html
Imagine, a VS V8 Commodore, EF Falcon or Honda Integra Airbox/CAI on a Magna ??? Wish they had tested the Magna, then we could have had something to compare it too.

Also, for anyone who knows someone with a commodore - how's this for a cheap mod !!!

And while I'm looking through the autospeed articles, here's the Mitsubishi Engine one for those who have not seen it...

So what did the Holden article end up saying? I can't access the rest of the article. I'm lazy too. Oh, and my Mrs just said that I smell.

I currently supply Oversized TB's for the VN-VT V6's. Increased from a 60mm to a 70mm TB which is a bolt-on 19kw atw with headers and exhaust work. Base models pulled +5kw atw.

Can you copy and paste the article for us please??? Please?

naah dude u will only loose power (and make a lot of ricey noise) if u try to fit an intake from a LS1 or (2) V8 Commodore. And having a look @ my mates new HSV Z series clubby engine bay (this thing is slow, best time with my g-tech was 14.1 [2/10 slower than Motor magazine]...hehehe bogan commodore crap 6.0L) there is no way u could make anything fit.
Also a crap box like an EL falcon has almost no R&D especially when it comes to intakes why dont u try an intake from a Barina it's gonna add 50% power 4 sure. :bowrofl:
Anyway back to the point only small gains can be had from the intake (it was designed by some really smart people) and these mods have been discussed in depth on this board. If u want big gains try getting someone to fabricate u a 70 or 80mm throttle body, however this will be really really costly.
before u mess with ur intake check the below links....

The Magna OEM airbox has many similar design characteristics to the VS V8 unit. The Magna airbox provides a very large filter exchange area, restriction are the intake funnel, airflow meter, ridges in the elbow before the TB, TB lips.

Biggest gains in response are from the TB lips being removed.

Biggest torque gain is from a CAI and filter change.

Hard to do much about the airflow meter, the elbow is a hassle too but it's a difficult shape to source a replacement for.
