my Alpine V12 Accuclass MRD-1001 finally arrived the other day, so i spent all yesterday putting it in, i have both amps mounted to the back of my sub box (which is 96cm wide) and it takes up the whole thing!!

bass is definately much louder and clearer than before, but i didn't get time to re-install the caps so headlights, guages, everything is dimming pretty bad at the moment!

a new box is gonna be made, and hopefully upgrade the 6ga cable to something bigger!

NICE!!

whats the other amp? them alpines are sexc.

lol, yes you definately need something more than 6ga for two amps hahaa. What ever happend to that flat lying quad-sub box that was sorta big enuf to fit 2 men inside?

The other amp is a 4ch V12 (4x65WRMS) so now the total system power should be about the 1300WRMS mark... and a max draw of 120a so yeah, 6ga definately has to go! i'm using an Optima dry cell battery, and will be connecting up my 2 1.5 farad Fusion capacitors once i've built the new sub box. i'll make sure i get pics then!

that quad sub box was fun for a while, but weighed WAAAY too much and this setup is almost as loud i reckon now.

An what would this alpine amp be running?

Yeah upgrade to 2 gauge minimum...

Which subs???

yeah, definately will be going to 2ga i reckon, i'm thinking about getting the distribution blocks that are available for the capacitors, then run the amps straight from there (no more than .5m of cable to each amp)

i'm currently using 2 pioneer TS-W1201C subs (500WRMS each) which are awesome for deep and thumping bass, and very clear with tight punchy bass, but seem to get a little lost sometimes for very complicated tracks... but thats pretty rare

i wanna make this sub box PERFECT, so each enclosure is 28L (recommended) made from 16mm MDF, every screw will be pre-drilled and glued... hole saw used for all terminals for perfect fitting... the MDF has been cut by my bro (nice $350,000 machine that cuts accurate to .1mm) any recommendations to what i can use to deaden the box to stop any "boominess"?

how does your alternator cope with this much power draw(obviously its not constent) but thats a huge draw given that the rest of the car needs power too

what are our stock magna alternators? 140A? they're pretty beefy. i think a few people on here are running similar power, if not more (red devil comes to mind) etc etc...should cope fine

you may wanna recheck your alternator there only 120 amp max which is drawn by his amps alone not to mention ecu headunit lighting ignition and other acc fitted

oh ok, well, somewhere around there, lol

i'm pretty sure the big amp only draws about 80a, and the smaller one about 40a? (not 100% but i think its about that somewhere) so total should only be about 120a... and remembering that would only be at full volume which is really too loud anyway! i'm going to be upgrading the power cable to a 2ga as soon i get some $$$, and the Tonkins store in the city might get a call from me about sticking it on the RTA meter and fine tuning every setting ready for the Autosalon SQ comp this year.... every speaker has its own EQ and time alignment so hopefully should get something special!

easiest way to check power draw is to add up all the wattages and divide it by the volts.

this give amperage, dont forget to take into account lights and ecu and other acc's fitted.

as i found out the other day alternators dont last long when they run at or close to there peak easy to fit but expensive.

the ecu doesnt like the power taken away from it either, small bit of advice given to me by a guru add extra earths to your battery and motor will give better performance to your car and your stereo not easy to believe but car stereo australia have tried this too and it worked for them aswell

this is also something that will be done asap, i was talking to a guy at a show recently that owns a 5-speed ralliart, and added one of those earth kits to his car (while on the dyno) after trying a few different earthing spots they apparently ended up with a few kW atw gain! one thing he did mention though was that the stock stereo sounded way better aswell
