Went and listened to the new Jaycar range yesterday... Hope this helps people if they are thinking of getting some.

New Kevlar splits: Woofer is crap. Missing a massive section of midrange. Tweeters sounded pretty good though. Dont know if you could fix the midrange by fiddling with the crossover (which looks pretty cool!)

New Kevlar 6x9s: Pretty good, would make superb rear fill. Its a 2-way design. Sounded pretty clear.

New Carbon Fibre subs: Awesome!!! Loved the tight clear bass! Am definatly gonna get the 12" (or 10" if funds dont stretch!). Can be reverse mounted as well with a sweet looking basket.

If you want a slightly more expensive set of splits, their 6.5" Kevlar woofer (CS2230) and their super tweeters (CS2210) and crossover (CX2640) sound awesome when paired together. A million times better than the new kevlar splits. The magnet on the 6.5" woofer is nearly as big as the woofer itself. They didnt discontinue these as they have been such a success, and have been their most popular combination. Together they sounded very clear, plenty of midrange (especially compared to the splits!) and crystal top end. Was very impressed. Would have to check if the magnet fits in the door though as its pretty big.

Their new amps are great. All of the higher powered ones have a remote sub volume control to be mounted in the dash which is very handy! Couldnt see anything about them that I didnt like. All have heaps of features and fully adjustable for just about anything youd want. They also are a much better size than the old ones as they are pretty compact, especially the monoblock, I couldnt believe how small it was.

If anyone else has gone and heard them let me know if you agree/disagree! :D

Cheers
Pete

Does any know what the best sealed box volume is for the 10" and 12" subs?
I did a search for box calculators, but they all asked for specs which i didnt have or couldnt understand...

Yeh u need specs to design a box... then u can download winisd etc. to calculate optimum volume.

As all woofers are different the actual size (10"12" etc) isnt the most important spec

with the jaycar amps they r rated at 200mv-5v for the inputs

any problems with runnig 6.5V inputts??

Keep the gain down and you should be OK.. Don't run it at any more then Half or it could cause input problems

Nope, Worst case it might mean u cant turn the headunit to full otherwise the amp will clip.
Will only be putting out that many volts when running tones anyway so should be fine.

I cleared some room for you in my inbox Megatron...

You will need to get a spec sheet, it should be on the net, it will ask for thing like Fs, Qtc, Qts etc that you need to fill out to design the best curve for you :D

I have the 6.5" Kevlar splits in the fron, i had them in the rear also but i ditched the woofers (kept the tweeters) and put in the 6.5" 80W kevlar inverted-cone woofers, and damn they are sweet!!!

Response amp for my response sub (10") and its a very nice sounding system! :D

compared it with my friends Hertz system and (same setup but 12" sub in a VR commodore) and you couldnt tell the difference in sound quality although mine cost about 1/4 of the price and he got a good deal on his stuff!

Very happy! (im a musician so sound quality is damn important!)
