Hey there,
Whilst on vaction I decided to make my instrument panel glow red. I took my instrument panel out, then took one of the 4 globes with me to Repco to get some of those lil coloured globe covers.
I originally was after blue but settled on red...because they did not have any blue ones there.
Whacked them on, put the panel back in, went to erina fair unground carpark, and hey presto, red instruments! If blind folded until inside my car looking directly at the instrument panel, you could think it was a Beamer or Audi. I didn't though because I know what car I drive but yeah looks the goods. Quite bright, and absolutely every thing is red except the auto indicator and the fuel warning thingy. Anybody else done this? The globe covers only cost me $2.20 so it's a cheap but effective mod I reckon. :D
Just thought I'd share in case anybody hadn't heard of doing this.
ok bye

Whilst i have a digi cam it may not be possible because i don't have the net at home so wouldn't be able to upload them to the site. If I'm around at my mates house on the weekend I will see if he could do it for me :D

I'm assuming you are asking for pics or that I be banned? I hardly ever post on here (therefore I don't troll) and didn't consider this to be spam....

So exactly which lights are you refering too.. Instrument as in dash cluster or in radio climate control area..
As VRX already has red dash cluster.. :D

I'm referring to the 4 big globes in the dash cluster. They are the ones I changed to red as I only have a Exec model. The rest of my console and auto shifter is green. I think thats how the VRX's are?
I have a TJ so you can definately do it.
Do it!!!It looks cool!!! :)
something im gonna look into :D
is it possile to change the auto shifter light???
This sounds interesting.. My interior is all black and red, the lights are greenish\yellow. I'd like the red lights.

Ive changed the colours of pretty much every light in the Dash and instrament cluster.
Even the cigerette lighter.

are they just similar lights to the ones in the cluster?

Ok check it out. this is pretty much exactly what mine now looks like colour wise however my needles are bright red and the light is even accross the cluster unlike this pic where it fades out at the sides. This piccy is from a 5 series beamer.

I put blue LEDs in to replace the standard white globes (4 main ones) on my 97 Verada and it's come up reallllll nice....
only down side is that it's look better with white dials unfortunally i can't find em... (and help there would be appreciated)
I'll try and get some pics on here soonest.

Try these sites for white dials:
www.spoilershop.com.au (I got the white dials for my TJ Exec from these guys)
www.emtechautomotive.com.au (I've heard of other people who have gotten them from here).

I painted regular globes red with translucent ceramics paint (high temp rating), and it gives a deep red that is much better than the silicon narva sleeves which fade to a light pink after around 9-12months.

I would say an art supply house...
You can get a similar stuff for doing 'stained glass' from Bunnings in their art supply section.
A 5W bulb doesn't get real hot anyways.

Take the instrument panel out, turn it around. On the back there are 3 or 4 (can't remember) light golbs, the ones you want have a blue backing on them.
I used the red rubber covers from Autobarn. Turned out ok.

I did this to my TJ, except there wasn't any globes behind mine, they were LED's soldered onto the cluster. I just pulled the cluster apart, took off the old LED's and put on new red ones. Looks nice, even the digital odometer is red :D

Spotlight. Can't remember manufacturer but it was made in France. About $9 for a bottle that you could probably do 100 globes with. Still a hell of a lot cheaper than those chinatown colored bulbs that are $10/pair which are typically crap quality bulb/filaments anyway.
Bake the bulbs in the oven on about 180degC for 15mins or so then do another coat and bake again. This leaves an ultra hard coating that won't be disturbed when you fit the globe.

I was able to get the instrument cluster out and got stuck on what to do next. Do you pull need to pull the needels off to get to the Led's that backlight the speedo. I tried to pull them off but though i might brake them.
Thanks
