=== PEOPLE!!! ===

Want to know what mods do what to your car?
Want to know the mods that actually work?

Want to know where you can get these mods?

Want answers to your questions BEFORE you ask them in the forums?

Well if you all get off you lazy butts and start adding to this list, people will actually benefit from it.
Someone didnt make it sticky because they jizzed all over it, they made it sticky because it could quite possibly grow into something we could regard as our modifying bible. A tool we can use so as not to look like tools because we read it (and didnt put a flux capacitor in our car thinking we could time travel, its a magna not a delorian!)

I know i sound like someone who's just trying to get a huge thread started, but i honestly believe that we could achieve this. (Plus i'm sick and tired of searching for my next mod, i want someone to post something cool in here!)

Ok folks get your butts into gear and get this list looking like something that we can actually use... have you been somewhere latley looking for a part and got a price? ADD THAT! but lets try and be specific about where you got it from (please dont just say "local mechanic" ) and remember to include the actual price YOU PAID (and/or were quoted).

Cheers Folks...:D

PLEASE NOTE: I've added some new items to the list, if you have already posted could you please edit these in, if not please add these when you do.

Here is an example of the kind of format i think would be a good way to set it out, you'll ge the idea.

ON A TR OR EARLIER:

What: A TS "M9" cast head complete with camshaft and rockers (and smaller heart shaped combustion chambers)
Where: wreckers
Cost: $??? (+VRS gasket set @$80? and head face resurfacing @$30?)
Required: a set of metric hand tools includiing torque wrench or mechanics labour.
Comments: On my TR engine, before and after tests showed roughly 10% gain in compression across the 3 cylinders that were still sealed before the work, slightly better fuel economy (from 480km to 550km a tank, highway driving on ULP) and it feels more torquey than every other 4cyl TR I have driven, between 2500 and 4500 rpm.

*IF YOU ARE IN THE EASTERN STATES OR SA AND HAVE A GOOD, 4 CYL TS (M9 CAST) CYLINDER HEAD, COMPLETE WITH CAM AND ROCKERS, FOR SALE ......PLEASE PM ME WITH A PRICE AND YOUR POSTCODE

What: throttle body (machined to 65mm from 60mm)
Where: RPW(?$ pm anthony) or EZ-boy(~80$)
Cost:see above
Required: Ability to remove throttle body and re-attach later.
Comments: Better low down response, works well with a cai and if in the presence of a cai it would be benificial to bypass the coolant through the throttle body. This is done by looping the longer of the two hoses running from the thermostat back to the origin of the shorter hose (also at the thermostat). If bypassing the coolant cause a high idle the idle speed control may need to be reset, this can be done by the home mechanic or for a unknown price from mitsubishi.

nice to see this didnt turn into something stupid and people are actually using it the way it was intended... i'm quite interested to find out more about this "m9" head stuff... another thread maybe?

If you have a TS 4cyl you should already have a head with smaller heart shaped combustion chambers, this and the pistons (i think) are the main differences between TR and TS EFI engines.
I think the piston tops must be different in a TS because the compression ratios remained the same in the two engines but the head is smaller on the TS. Also a set of TS pistons I saw on Ebay had dished tops instead of the flat top of TR and earlier models.

I haven't seen a TS engine with the head off...... yet, but i'm thinking that the mod to raise compression in a TS might be to replace the dished pistons with flat tops to suit earlier models.

If you want to identify what version of head is fitted to a 2.6L magna then look for the "M1-9" mark, the easiest to read with engine in car from memory.... is above the exhaust manifold port for number 2 cylinder.

It would be good if 4cyl ppl with original engines could list what year and model their car is and also what type of head is fitted so we could get a list compiled and post as sticky (maybe) of what head (M1-9) was fitted to what model 2.6L
I have been interested in this idea for a few months,
What Head was on what 2.6L (1st gen models especially) seems to be a mystery.
So far I know that GEN 1 heads are M1 to M4 cast, TR efi heads with roller rockers and round chambers are either M6 or M7 cast, and that TS with heart shaped chambers are M9, Note I haven't seen an M1, M5 or M8 cast yet.

EZ Boy TB's are flowed 3rd Gen units. No oversizing - it's a nightmare, RPW will back me up on this.

1st Gen TB's are already a straight-thru design, no flowing gains to be made. Oversizing seems quite possible. The 1st Gen TB's probable have 5-8mm capacity for oversizing.

Exchange basis. $200 base cost. Includes: $80 for TB, $10 AMC donation, Postage and deposit on your TB returned to me. Average cost after deposit returned is about $120.

Improved part throttle response. Better fuel economy in Automatics. Manuals enjoy faster gear changes and a more responsive feel. Best in conjunction with other entry level mods such as high flow muffler, cold air intake, aftermarket air filter.
