View Full Version : To bridge or not to bridge
Now i saw a pioneer sub for like 130 bucks.... 600 watts...
BUT every amp thats like :P hehe cheap Is classed as 4 channels 2 channels and the like but they all fall short of this 600 wats!!! only one for 800 bcks!! is 250rms monoblock
So heres my question.... Do you match the amp to the sub??
or it doesnt matter!! cause as it stands a cheap amp will cost me 200 dollars ELCHEAPO
4 x 250 Watts max. output power
4, 3 or 2 channel bridgeable
What does bridgable meen?
And i have searched the posts for what bridgeable meens but have come up with nothing!! but a good post on what amp to buy!!!! (but its out of my price range!!)
THis is the only place i read for car facts and figures so help me out and ill give you 5% off at coles :P

Bridgeable means that you can make 2 channels 1.
For eg. You have 1 sub and have a 2x200w AMP.
Usually you can only use 1 channel for your sub so 1x200 but if your amp is bridgable(which most are nowadays) you can use 1x400 into the sub.
Most of the time when you bridge two channels you get more than double the power.
For eg. My Alpine 1507 amp, it's 2x250w or 1x900w!
So by "bridging the 2 channels you get much more power!
If your buying 1 sub then get a Mono Block or 2 channel amp. 4channel amps can't be put into 1 sub. Unless you want to put 2 x 250w into speakers and 1x500w in to the sub. (those figures are made up)

If you are after an amp that will power that pioneer nicely, but you dont want to dish out too much get a Fusion FE-402 amp. Here are the specs:
At 14.4volts
50w rms x 2 @ 4 Ohms
90w rms x 2 @ 2 Ohms
190w rms x 1 @ 4 Ohms
340w rms x 1 @ 2 Ohms
u can get more detail at the Fusion (http://www.fusioncaraudio.com) site, but i have one of these running 2 pioneers and it sounds the shit. U are looking at about $300 for one of these

Also make sure you have the correct ohms. In this case if you want the full 340w rms you need a 2ohm sub.
hey thanks fer the replies!!!
see im not cluey at all when it comes down to ummm most things :P
What is THD???
just a guess does it stand for total hiss distortion? or am i wrong!
So if i get a 2 channel bridgable amp say of 4 or 500 watts it will be run at ... Ohhh ok.... hmmmmm couldnt they just say 2 into 1 ;) heheh easy language..

Mind you through subs you wouldn't be able to tell the diff from .2% THD to 3% thd.
Even on splits unless you have a very good ear and very good speakers you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.
