NOT HAPPY JAN!!

i bought a TF magna just over a month ago...now all was good until this morning, start her up and oooh that didnt sound good, loud "ticking" noise, im only a little bit worried at that stage. drive around a bit then realise the noise is getting louder and think hell i'll get her home and check it out, only it didnt make it there!!
conks out and then zip nothing..call the RAA and he thinks its the timing chain or something to that effect, anyway it gets towed to the repair centre and theyre like hmmm doesnt look good then gives me more bad news that NOPE they got no loan car for me...
the only consilation is that its covered by the 3 month warranty etc so wont cost me a cent to get fixed...

anyway sorry guys just needed to vent :blah:

be interested in you posting what had to be fixed, so that others can make sure they check for that when buying 2nd-hand cars.

BTW - did you get RAA (or similar) to do a pre-purchase inspection?

Oh crap.

Reminds me of when my original engine in my 1st gen died. It just got really really loud, then just stopped working lol

I'm pretty sure they have belts. Much smoother and quieter.

sucks man, but dont blame your car! if your timing chain has **** itself then its most likely because the previous owner was too damn cheap to fix it! probably thought "meh im seeling it anyway" and just didnt bother.

look on the bright side, atleast its under warraty!! gotta love that warranty stuff

No offence intended, but I would'nt call a problem after buying a car that is a few years old reason for it being called a Lemon, hell when I bought My TJ I had a Engine Mount , Clutch and Muffler replaced under warranty , but I don't regard it as being a Lemon. I can see where you're coming from though, You sound like you would've liked some more driving out of it before it went bung, but in hindsight probably better now than in 4 months time when your warranty would've expired.

$900 to have your timing belt done, **** must be gold. Mine cost $260.

Ahh so it makes loud ticking noises before the belt breaks, excellent. Thanks for the tip dude. (My timing belt is past its use-by date)

yep it was the timing belt/chain (whichever one, im no mechanic)
yeah im happy (so to speak) that it happened now and not after the 3 month warranty so it will get fixed for nothin..it was just the inconvenience of the whole thing.

well all, a week and a half later i finally get my car back.

apparently when the timing belt was being replaced they found damaged valves on rear cylinder head and damage to the cam shaft. so all fixed and replaced.
Thank christ for the 3 month warranty, would have hated to pay for this repair thats for sure!!

I dont know how you can be getting down on the car because the timing belt needs to be changed, timing belts are a disposable item, they will always wear out no matter if its a mitsubishi or a bently.. its the same as whinging that you have to replace your brake pads

if it was the ford i would never had this problem ;)

lol no with a ford you might have had a REAL problem :P

How may head gaskets have Ford 6cyls done ?
Unless your going to buy a V8 forget Falcons.

Late model 6cyl falcons have strong motors with little trouble if maintained properlly. Plus it's easy to make a falcon 6 go faster than its 8 cyl versions.

i dissagree, i have heard of many BA falcon I6 engines needing to be replaced under warranty..

Same as the gen 3's

Ok, let me rephrase :D

EL/AU 6 cyl motors are tough, not all BA's lol

Jim Mock DEV 5 kit for 4.0 OHC falcon motor, about 170rwkW for about $5,000. Includes freshen up of head, cam, complete exhaust system and unichip. Stock internals :P

Plus look at teh EL an AU taxies

my previous car was an AU XR8 and for the 5 years i had it i never had any mechanical probs.

my first post was really to vent some anger as you can imagine buying a car and 6 weeks later it packs up on ya isnt the best feeling, but its over and done with now and got some new parts on her without the cost...so it alls good :)

dont get me wrong i like the magna (obviously or i wouldnt have bought it) i was just pissed at the inconvenience of the whole thing. So now that i have it back, hopefully there wont be any further probs and i'll start lookin around for a few mods, exhaust is gonna be first on the list.

So now i can ENJOY!!

mate, if you have problems or need servicing, I do a lot of work on members cars for a fraction of the price of a workshop, PM me if you need anything.

For the record, although I would never reccomend it, the highest milage I have seen a Magna Timing belt do was 178000k, the fuel filter had also never been changed along with the rear bank of spark plugs!!!!!!!
