Well im just look for some advice for my mum actually.
she bought a New CH Lancer from MMAL in Penrith in August Last Year

She went in for her 15 000km service today, they carried out the service, during which they called her asking if she would like a throttle body service to remove grease? for an extra $97 she sed if its needed it should be included in the 15 000km service. anyway she sed yes, so her over all service was $327.

My Question is what the hell is a throttle body service, is it needed, why is it needed, or are they just ripping her off.

Thanx in advance for your information.

Just cleaning out some gunk from the throttle body.
For a car that's only done 15000kms and a year old, it's not something that usually needs doing. Maybe it really was dirty, but then you'd notice slightly rough idling.
Probably was a rip-off or somebody being extra careful (hah).

major rip off. i service lancers most days and have never come across one with less than at least 50,000km that has needed cleaning. if it does need cleaning its only a matter of pulling the intake hose off and cleaning with some carby cleaner.

overall cost for a 15'000km service which includes tappet adjustment should be NO more than $200. 1.4hr labour
$30-$50 oil and oil filter

does it say on her invoice how much time was spent?
