Grrrrrrrr!
My trip meter won't reset and it's bugging me!
I like to reset the trip meter with every tank of fuel. Except now when I push in the stalk, I feel the spring go in, then there's a small clunk, the stalk pushes in a little furter, I see the numbers sort of twitch, then nothing.
A bit of a thump and sometimes it will reset, but now it's stuffed. Of course when I went to show my dad, it reset on first press (typical). But definitely not working now.

I have the cluster out of the car at the moment. Any tips on repairing this, or should I leave it to the pros?

I went to fix the odometre of a 1983 Colt - unfortunately I removed the wrong screw and the clock spring sprang out and it was never the same again! Don't want to screw mine up!

I'm not familar with the gen3 speedos but if you do try to repair it and it's like most speedos i have repaired you will have to remove the face to get at the tripmotor mechanism. If there is a stop for the needle at 0kph, free the needle over this stop so it can point down freely and note it's position, reassemble with the needle in this position or your speedo will be out when you reassemble it, if you need replacement parts for the speedo they can't be bought thru some manufacturers spare parts counters (dunno about mitsu) but they are available through instrument repair shops.
Wear latex gloves or similar, when opening the instrument cluster and removing and dissasembling speedo. Only thing worse than fingerprints on the inside of the instrument cluster perspex is skin oil/fingerprints on the instrument faces because you can't clean it off the non reflective surface.
you should be able to see the cause of your fault by trying to reset the trip meter with the speedo out of the cluster and seeing what is worn,
Could also just be the push pin is off the reset arm but still hitting it, you don't need to talke the face off to clip it back on.

Thanks for the tips.
I got the cluster out. The cogs underneath the trip metre were out of sync. I gave these a twiddle and hey presto, the reset lever now works.
I just hop that my speedo is still in sync! Had to take the needle off to remove the face to get to the gearing mechanism.

I'll do a GPS run later today and test the speedo for accuracy.
Now would be the time to make myself some custom white dials :D
