Hey All, I bought some Diamante Indoglo Dials from the US last week and i got them installed no probs and wired up, however ive noticed that i cannot have the dimmer dial plugged in. As soon as i plug the dimmer switch in the glow dials turn off. Now usually it wouldnt bother me but the dash lights ie AirCon etc must be on the same circuit cause at night i only get the indiglo and no other dash lights including the needles so i can see what speed im doing

Anyone know why this would be happening? If so is there another wire i can source power from in order to get them going, dials didnt come with any instructions.

I've got power tapping from the 'black' plug that plugs into the cluster box itself. Ground is in place also.

Any help would be much appreaciated! :D
Thanks!

wouldn't u have to re-calibrate ur speedo to get it to read the right speed??
how much would that cost?

thats them!

and no you dont have to pay to get the speedo fixed. Clarion was very helpful he informed me that where the numbers are on these dials is the exact place of the factory numbers. just double the number you see on the Diamante dials and thats your speed. I.e 30=60 etc.

to set the needles right i took pics with my phone of my tacho at idle and fuel. I did the temp when the car was in the mid (usual driving temp)

set the speed by using the speed check the car has built in, set it to 40klm per hour put the needle one as soon as i heard a beep. took HEAPS of tries but its going great in that department now.

No external costs apart from the dials themselves.
I love them, took a bit of hassling Clarion Magna to get them installed properly but with the help i got it saughted. Surprising easy to rip the dash out. Can do it in about 20 secs now haha
Here's a phone pic of the dials

I'd be happy to get in contact with the ebay seller, probably do it a bit later tonight. i'll enquire about price and postage discounts for 5+ and 10+ buyers. I'll keep you posted

Whats that one you have pictured there jpeg??
Just one question to throw out there, do we think this mod is legal????? Not having a speedo with correct kmh marked on it would be a breach of the adrs??? I know that clarion also has an apexi rsm which would give an accurate speed regardless, would this be a condition of using these guages......as ive considered them a few times before but really want to avoid any 'yellow ticket' trouble!

As far for the dials being legal i would say they are i mean they do have a kmh readout its just small, and as for yellow ticket trouble i was pulled over and they looked at my dials and rsm very closely and did not say anything but i still got defected for other stuff:rant:

Just a quick question: I'm aware that the gauges are meant for a left hand drive magna, however the 'security', 'door', 'SRS' and 'handbrake' spaces on the gauges are on the opposite side to our instrument clusters.

Ie. the security and SRS are on the left for the USA gauges however are on the right for our car?

So how did you guys switch them around to right hand drive as they look as though they will only fit one way.?

ive noticed that i cannot have the dimmer dial plugged in. As soon as i plug the dimmer switch in the glow dials turn off.

Don't really know anything about them, but I'm guessing from the looks of them that they are EL (eletroluminescent) - I believe brightness is controlled by frequency. Using the dimmer inline would probably drop your voltages below the required operating voltage, unlike standard dial lights, which would just dim with the lower voltage.
I'd say try to bypass the dimmer for the dials, maybe get the voltage from before the dimmer, then the dimmer should (maybe) still work for the rest of your lighting.

Oh, another possibility is that the dimmer is being plugged in after the power inverter for the EL dials, which means it would be putting a variable resistor in an AC circuit, which ain't gonna work.

yeah that's what it seems like to me, the dials themselves (fuel, speed, tacho, temp) are all pluged in series *i think* into a small inverter block which then needs to be wired to power and ground. do you think that maybe the wire ive tapped into doesnt run wnough current to power the dials AND the rest of teh dash? Clarion Magna says i should get myself a multimetre and maybe tap into the wire that carries the highest voltage. might work
if it does i'll try and post up an install guide for everyone :D
