Ive got a TR 4 cyl efi thats running on gas.
I read somewhere that it should be advanced to around 15 degress? is this right.
Also i read that theres a screw somewhere down behind the distruibter thats turned to change the timing but this was for the V6, is this the same for the 4 cyl?
Thanks

on a 4cyl TR to set timing, with a length of wire you have to earth the round single pin check connector to the body, it is on the LHS of the wiring loom on the firewall, this will put the timing into base mode and enable acurite timing adjustment with a timing light.
I am running a dual fuel TR 4cyl and I set my timing to 15deg BTDC insted of the manufacturers setting of 13deg, I only go to 15deg because i still run petrol too and this is about the safe limit you can advance timing to on ULP,(some local servos don't have PULP)
If you are running straight LPG you may be able to get more advance than 15deg without any problems.
i have the 4cyl running about 22-25BTDC (hard to tell its off the gauge thingy)
STRICTLY PULP fuel.
and yes its made a huge difference. I put it back to standard the other day.....and the car felt like it was running on 2 cylinders.

I have to start and run the car on PULP unitl it warms up because if i try to switch over to gas while the engine is cold it just stalls.
So im only running PULP till the engine warms up then i switch over to gas, so do you think i could advance the timing anymore or still 15 the max?
by the way ive never done this before and all i know is how to attach that timing light to the spark plug haha
So all the info you guys give me is all ive got.
Once ive earthed the pin connector and i hook up the timing light, i shine it down at the belt and the white dot thingo tells me where the timing is at... but now what do i have to do to advance this timing? thanks.

to adjust the timing on a 4cyl loosen the Nut (12mm head) that retains the distributor body to the head and then turn the body of the distributor. Lock the Nut when it is set at the desired adjustment.
If you are only running PULP and LPG then try for more advance than 15 degs, if you over advanced then it will "ping" or knock under full throttle at low RPM and it might also miss and hesitate at idle, both when the check connector is disconnected again.
Samauri what sort of fuel economy do you get running that much advance?
