In the NT our vehicle standard regulations DONT require our vehicles to be fitted with a Cat Converter :D

sooo... with the haltech, buy gutting the cat (or replacing with piping) we are removing any back pressure that the cat would normally produce and tuning the engine to make use of the 'nil' backpressure :D

oh, and when the cat gets gutted, ill weld a straight through pipe so it still *appears* to have a cat converter

what do you guys think?

an estimated 5-10kw (flywheel) can be found by removing the cat :D

My brother gutted the Cat in his VN SS, it gave it a throatier note, but he didnt have a pipe running through the middle, just bolted the hollow one back on.
Caution, dont get any of the shit in your Cat on your hands/skin/eyes or into your lungs. Wear gloves and protective glasses, that shit is carsnogenic or however u spell it. It looks like some sort of ceramic, but its some prety deadly stuff.

Be careful Booya. Most state/territory laws are subject to the Australian Design Rules, ie the ADR's supersede the state/territory laws.

The NT legislation doesn't reflect this in my 5min search of AustLII, closest match is this:

TRAFFIC REGULATIONS - SECT 135
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nt/consol_reg/tr186/s135.html
(3) A person shall not drive a motor vehicle if -

(a) the vehicle does not have affixed to it a silencer in good repair;

(b) the exhaust emissions from the vehicle do not pass through a silencer; or

(c) the vehicle causes undue noise or smoke due to -

(i) the state of disrepair; or

(ii) the construction, condition or adjustment,

of the vehicle or any part of the vehicle.

however this does not mean you are home free. Since your vehicle was manufactured to comply with ADR 37
ADR 37 - Emission Control for Light Vehicles
The intention of this Australian Design Rule is to limit 'Fuel Evaporative Emissions' and 'Exhaust Emissions.

37/00' from motor vehicles in order to reduce air pollution, and to require new motor vehicles to be manufactured to operate on 'Unleaded Petrol'.

...modifying your vehicle so it no longer complies with this ADR may be classed as an offence (ie you can be fined/defected for it) according to the Commonwealth Motor Vehicle Standards Act
MOTOR VEHICLE STANDARDS ACT 1989 SECT 13A
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/mvsa1989245/

13A Vehicles not to be made nonstandard
(1)
Subject to subsection (3), a person must not knowingly or recklessly modify a standard vehicle in a way that makes it nonstandard.

Penalty: 120 penalty units.

(2)
Subject to subsection (3), a person must not knowingly or recklessly hand over a standard vehicle to a person for modification, whether by that person or otherwise, in a way that makes it nonstandard.

Penalty: 120 penalty units.

(3)
A person may modify a standard vehicle in a way that makes it nonstandard, or hand over a new vehicle for such modification:

(a)
in prescribed circumstances; or
(b)
with the written approval of the Minister.
(4)
An approval given under subsection (3) may be subject to written conditions determined by the Minister.

You would have to obtain legal advice on what 'prescribed circumstances' means however.

Personally I wouldn't do it. Why pollute the environment more and emit more noxious gasses simply in order to get a tiny bit more power?

If you want to do it then get it in writing that removing the cat is not a defectable modification. 8)
