Okay, after speaking to Marty (FHRX) on the weekend, I need some ideas of what splits I want to use in my system.

I am thinking along the lines of Bostons, something more suited to Dance/Pop/R&B. Main styles are House, Trance & their hard variants, Techno, D&B. Think Wild FM & Ministry of Sound Hard NRG and you are on the right track.
Marty tells me that a 'hard suspension speaker' will be more to my liking for this sort of thing - and that Bostons are not a bad choice in this regard.

So I am thinking Bostons, JL's, JBL's, MB Quart..... Something in the $400-$500 range.

Any others I should be considering?

Dont think ul go wrong with the bostons.
Focal make some decent splits too.

I think the MB quartz are a bit more musical, but hell I listen to a lot of the same genre's as you and the morels sound very nice :)

Get out there and use ur ears... I reckons...

Be aware of the amplification they are using and try to demo in car if possible.

I would say go dyn's but might be out of ur price range

Peace

Some of the stuff I have heard in studio monitors would be a good idea......

I'm just wanting some ideas to narrow down the range before I go audition them.

I can highly recommend the Boston FS60's :D

Thanks Zaphod.....

My list sorta looks like the following. Will update with any suggestions under $600.

LIST UPDATED AGAIN!!!!

Bostons around the $500 mark - SL60/SL80/SL95s ??
Would love boston pro's but a grand is way to much. G5's possible with further saving..... Leaning towards the Bostons....
Hertz HSK's - could afford the 3-ways at $539RRP.... interesting installation options.... See pic below for an idea I am thinking about
Focals 165KF's - $529RRP - in the ballpark, and could easily go for one of the lower models to save money.
Diamond M661's - stretching the budget a bit at $619RRP....but very very nice
Some MB Quarts - Can someone point me in the direction of a pricelist or dealer????
Vibe SA-K60's - around the $280 mark - cheap!
Morel Integra Ovation 6's - around $460 but not as suitable as the Bostons or Hertz models for my more thumping taste in music?
Eton Pro's???? Reasonable price... anyone had any experience with them? Comparable to what?

a/d/s and image dynamics are all over budget too.... If I went to a grand these would be included with the Boston Pro's.....and Dynaudio System 240 MKII's......

Marty: feel free to have your say here too.....

Pioneer TSC 160 Splits are a possibility, they go good with Dance and Trance and R&B
but need a good amp behind them

Sure they are not in the same field as the more refined MB Quarts but still worth a listen..

Boston are impecable and go good with everything.. the key is proper deadening...
Use your ears and use some tunes that you know how they are supposed to sound..

i think the hertz 3 ways would be an interesting set of speakers to listen to..especially if u mount the well.

for u and u're taste in what u call 'music' i'm guess bostons and hertz would be a good choice.....techno pffft:roll: :P

Ask Marty or look at their site for Vibe's here (http://www.vibeaudio.co.uk/index.asp?page=p-sa.html&header=p-sa-h.html&footer=p-sa-f.html).

I bought a set of Vibe SA-K60's from him and they are very sweet, I too listen to some rap, house, techno and dance, these splits have a nice top end, I found them to replay this style of music amazingly, without getting too bright when up loud. I'm feeding mine 120wrms but they were still nice when running from my deck(19wrms).

If your in a third gen just make sure you get the plastic baffles replaced with custom MDF items and use as much deadening as possible, makes a huge difference to SQ and SPL.
These are about your price range too, and wont dissapoint.
Deff worth a listen if possible.

Well I can tell you that dynaudio splits and the Boston Z6 series are def some of the best sounding on the market....and also approaching some of the most expensive as well. The one thing I always tell ppl is to forget the prices and the brands and dont worry about what anyone else says.....just take ur fav cd along to every audio shop you can, and have a listen to everything on the board (making sure they are running them off an amp with similiar output to what you can give them, or direct from the head deck if that all ur using). Buy the set that sounds best TO YOU, they will be in your car on all the long drives and there is nothing worse that a set of speakers that you cant listen to for more than an hour, or that cymbal strike in ur fav track just never sounds quite right...lol follow your ears!

im just going to intrude a little, but Mitsu - ur subs.. 12 or 15s?
12's.... 15's are a bit too big, lose too much boot space. As you heard on Sunday, was more than enough bass there.

i think the hertz 3 ways would be an interesting set of speakers to listen to..especially if u mount the well.
They are also fairly cheap in relation to some of the sets I have.....spend more on the actual install that way.
Marty will be installing them, so it will be done right.

for u and u're taste in what u call 'music' i'm guess bostons and hertz would be a good choice.....techno pffft:roll: :P
Each to their own eek......

oh a/d/s, diamond and dynaudio...mmmmmmm
It's way over budget, but yes, salivating. Like I said, Boston Pros at those dollars too if I save really hard....

If you are gonna blow a lot on them definetly have a listen to dyns.

My mate has the Hertz 3 ways with 8" midbass... They pump really hard. Likle ridiculously hard. Its near impossible to get rid of rattles when u have that much movement in ur doors.

Anyway in comparison, the 3 ways are sweet, but just not as 'real' they Lack something. Not quite as refined as the Dyn's/Morels/Focals. But might be the pick for the harder genre's of music.

Try and listen for a while as well. many speakers sound great on boards, just because they over pronounce midbass and have overly bright tweets, which gives the impression of crystal clear clarity and a deep full sound. Over time this causes listening fatigue in ur ears/brain. Which means you cant listen to them at volume for hours on end without turning them down.

This is where the Dyn's shine, they sound pretty boring, but get better after a few minutes. And you can pump them for hours happily.

Peace

Tim

I saw this on Martys site and all of a sudden loved the idea of the 3-way Hertz splits...

http://www.fastfoursforumscarclub.com/temp/fhrxstudios/images/lancer_8.jpg

Nice install....

As I said, the budget is maybe $600 max on the splits themselves, so the 3-way are a fairly cheap option for what you get.

Correct me but arent those splits $1299+?

3ways would be cool, just like the ralliart spoiler, you dont really need it but its so dam cool! Yeah as long as Marty installs them, they will sound fantastic, Boston and Hertz offerings gets the thumbs up. :D

That's one thing I didn't hear on the cruise Ego... ya stereo...

I've already got Pioneers speakers in mine, however only coaxials.

I reckon at the next do (and every AMC cruise) we set aside time to listen to each other's systems.... for those that are into it....

Makes for good comparisons of different equipment.

Maybe a possible thing for MM05..... get everyone away from a built up area, and those with decent systems that wanna show them off can, and those who would like some pointers for their systems can ask....

Okay I will. Look at the attachment.

EDIT: sorry mate, I just realised what you meant. I want the Hertz three-ways, not the focals. I like the idea for the install as shown in the picture.

yeah, that's what I reckon. I'd rather spend a bit less on the speakers and get marty to install them really well, pay a bit extra for that.

I think those 3-ways are good value for money.....wanna have a listen though!

Ha cool, an obviously Pioneer. You would choose the TS-C splits over the Boston SL-60 or PG 6.5Ti? Not to mock you, but how are your splits set up at the moment, i.e. where are you components located and what other materials are used on doors / panels, amplification power etc.

So tweeters in A pillar and woofers in door ( looks like a VR-X ), 110 / 220WRMS per set, no sound deadening. Interesting. Only Pioneer splits I would buy are $3k :doubt: They almost sound as good as the Alpine 3 ways (SPX) or Boston Z6.

eek shouldnt you take me out to dinner and back to your place and if you show me a good time then i may think about it :gtfo: :bowrofl:

No disrespect Ego, but I don't really like the pioneers.... they can be way to bright for me, but it is all personal preference. I do want to have a listen to your system now... so next time I see you I am kicking Mysti outta the passenger seat for a couple of minutes and cranking it.

Nobody else got any other suggestions for me??

Ill do some digging. EDIT: http://www.doranproaudio.com.au/products/catalogue.asp?catID=8

When I get my licence back ill do the next Cental coast cruise and you can check them out. Ill be using Kicker subs MAYBE a kicker amp (high quality from what im told, but the price tags seem to reflect that) If kicker made head units id check them out too.

I was rather impressed with the sound quality from a cheap set of speakers.

If i make it to the next central coast cruise, I would love to heave a listen. I hear loads of good things about the Vibe's, but they are sorta cheap compared to what am looking to spend.

As for the Kickers... are we talking the 05KS6.2 model? at $340ish mark, they are worth a listen to....
Kicker amps are certainly very good, loads of power, and usually pump out much above what they are rated.
A mate has 2x12's of their basic subs, I wasn't that impressed, I thought they were rather 'soft" didn't live up to the name... no kick to them. They vibrated well, however. The attack on them is much to soft. The solobarics are a different animal..... loads of 'kick'...

Listened to a set of Hertz HSK 3-ways in a car, bloody awesome!
Loud? Couldn't hear properly for a few hours afterwards......:D
Very, very impressed with these speakers.

Got a listen to some older Bostons too, but not as good as I had hoped but they were about 3 years old and the car wasn't deadened either. Still better than I have now. Need to do more research on them.

I would like to get a listen of the Vibes too....TFLad - if I find you at a cruise, I need to have a listen!
Also need to find some Focals and some Morels (just for Tim's sake) and have a listen to those.

For straight out volume the hertz 3ways are mad. I dont think they sound as real though. Something missing for sure. But crazy midbass. My mate has 8's in the doors.

I still prefer my morel 2ways though :)
