My current car (magna TJ 02')
Already had a phone kit installed in it. (Being an ex-company car)
But it was for one of those bulky brick phones that was used.
Now my question is, is it possible to just replace the cradle so I can use my phone, I am willing to upgrade my phone if needed.
As the mic and is all connected and all.
went to strathfield last week and they said it wasn’t possible to just replace the cradle for which the phone sits in and said I would have to replace it all, which I do think its total BS.
Is this true or any suggestions?
Main reason im doing this is due to its already currently installed and could prove to be useful

It depends on the manufacturer.
The pre-colour screen Nokia business phones used a car kit consisting of the cradle, the black box, microphone and speaker. The Mic and speaker used ordinary 3.5mm plugs (like your headphones), so it is possible to just replace the cradle and black box.
In fact I'm not suprised if only the cradle needs a replacement, if your sticking with the same manufacturer.

I am one of the managers, at one of the vic strathfields.. hehehehe..
The guys are probably right.. If its an old kit, the only thing that is useful is generally the antenna and sometimes the mic and speaker if they fit the new kit that is. The antenna will always fit.. only time to worry is if you are going from digital to cdma.. Anyway what sort of phone do u have??

im more than likely gonna get a new phone anyway :)

i thought it would be possible to just swap the cradles.
cause im not too keen on forking out $1k or so, for this, if it ends up being that im just gonna leave it.

I'm going through the exercise of getting quotes for a car kit for my Nokia 6100 at the moment, Strathfield were the most expensive ($499 supplied and installed plus extra for no-hole bracket).
Tonkins who are literally next door were at $399 for the same kit.
Some of the 'we-come-to-you' places were a little cheaper, but looks like Crazy Johns will be doing mine as they are the supplier to where I work so even cheaper.....
