Hey guys, just trying to work out which head unit is the best out of these 2;

Alpine 9827 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50144&item=5776661415&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)

OR

Ecipse 5441 (http://www.greensburgautosound.com/eclipsecd5441page.htm)

-The alpine is obviously newer and has MP3 support which is kinda nice but not essential.
-The eclipse gets awesome reviews and im told it is an excellent, quality, good sounding unit - but it would be second hand and the unit design is actually a couple of years old now.

Assuming both are equal in price and that I am not too concerned about looks , just good sound and quality and beneficial features for my planned setup (such as sub vol control etc.) which is 1 of the above head units and;

Response 4x100 Amp
Jaycar 05 12" Sub (2x off amp)
Boston NX67 2 ways (off amp)
Stock rears

Any input guys ?

Eclipse has it all and looks sweet..
I would go for it over the Alpine...
and upgrade the rears to at least a 2-way 6x9..

well, do u think u would need a mp3 function?

obviously eclipse is well known for SQ headunits...but then again, alpine don't have a bad reputation either.

i like the eclipse i would buy the eclipse.

i have an eclipse unit, and yes, MP3 has definately been thrown in as an afterthought coz it probably wouldn't sell to the masses without it, has crap random and doesn't seem to decode quite right, but WHO CARES? eclipse are definately about SQ and dont care about MP3... throw a CD or DVD in mine and geeez... if my ears could cry they would!

I wanted a 9827 but ended up with a 5650mp :bowrofl:
