Does anyone know the difference between these two units? Is climate control basically aircon with a computer that thinks about what you've asked for? I'm just wondering if it's possible to stick climate control from a TJ or wherever into my car. Any idea if there would be much of a weight difference?

from what ive seen it has several temperature sensors inc that of the air outside. if you set the temperature it keeps the air at that temperature and circulates are if you want etc.

I do not know about the newer Verada's but in my KR the climate control have sensors in the cabin, one on the dash and one in the ceiling, 2 most stupid places as the sun hits the dsh, the sensor thinks the car is to hot and then if the air con is on the car freezes even though you have set 22 deg.
Next time my dash is out, it is being moved, i have tried to set it up temp under the dash, it worked quite well.
On my model if you want air con you have to turn it on your self which is how I prefer. Good when dragging at the lights, turn it off, need all I can get from a TR :D

Yeah, but you can turn it off though. Can't you?

Yeah, there's an off button.

The TJ sensor is in the unit itself in the dial you use to set the temp..There is a outside sensor behind the front bumper and the car has to be moving for it to work properly. It is a major to fit these to cars that don't have them although anything can be done but the units are well over $500.

Damn. What's part of the unit? Is it just stuff that sits behind the dash plus the external sensor? Is there anything mechanical different to run-off-the-mill aircon?

The one in the dash is a sun load sensor,it calculate the heat load in the interior from the sun, the one in the roof is the interior temp sensor. The dash mounted one is there for a reason :D It is used in most cars with aclimate control system. The a/c system may feel colder because of the "wind chill factor" (best i could think to describe) if it is blowing directly at you, have you tried just measuring interior temp with a thermometer? 22 deg is slightly below the average comfort range for humans whichis 23-24 deg

Redav, there is a fair bit involved in a climate control system.Main dash harness, control unit, outside ambient air temp sensor, interior air temp sensor, sun load sensor, possibly a complete different heater box assy if the heater flap and vent control flap motors do not just bolt up to the same heater box.Just the control unit alone i imagine would be around $1000.

Thanks, Scubasteve, you've cured me :D
