Hi Guys,

I think my bands might need tightening.. the gears dont seem to be kicking back properly when I slow down or stop and seem to kick back at the wrong time and push the car forward as they do it.. Anyone have this kind of problem before.. if so what causes it or any ideas?

i dont have an auto, but my dad did, we found that you had to keep regular services on the auto trans,

other then going to get it serviced right now, check your auto trans fluid,

the mitsu reccommended fluid is "mitsubishi ELC 4-SP2," when i had my TN there was specifice fluid i had to use for the auto,

There is a dipstick on the autobox, i'd assume that it is almost under the battery (really close to there), may need to take off the standard CAI plastic to get to it, Check that first

Good luck

I think you will find that your trans doesn't have bands. The new tranny's are all electric/computerised. Try doing an oil and filter change. It is very important that you use the mitsubishi oil as the tranny won't operate properly on any other oil. The wrong oil will cause you all sorts of trouble and possible damage. If it is still running rough after you service it you better take to a specialist or a mits dealer. They will have to look at all the sensors that controls the tranny to find the problem.

Good luck :)

The 4 speed in the te onwards does'nt have bands, The 5 spd has one.
Take it to a dealer.
Use only mitsu genuine oil or castrol Tqmst as other oils can damage the seals in these boxes causing all sorts of probs like GWalks said.
It could possibly be going into failsafe (locked in 3rd gear) which would explain the reluctance to kickdown, this is usually when a sensor or related circuit, ecu fail.
