hi kids

taking a break from uni exam study.

thought i might tell uabout some stuff on my stereo.

i used to have a problem with my sub being all 'boomy' and a little muddy. well, i went around and cleaned my battery terminals, and trimmed even more off my ground cables.....then wired up my sub in series.

it used to be in parallel, presenting a 2ohm (miniumumum stable load for amp)....but now, since its wired at '8ohms' i haven't noticed a decrease in volume at all..however clarity and response have gone up...thd, less distortion and the usual mumbo jumbo.

My amp is happier now, it smiles at me when i look at it, and sometimes makes spaghetti and mashed fish bones for me.

Oh, and i turned the bass boost from about 10% all the way down to 0, and adjusted the gains on my speakers amps a little bit....now that i've spent some time playing with it, its a little better tuned, and my sub amp doesn't seem to shut off with the pms it used to have

thought you'd like to know....

back to study now...pressure heads, triaxial tests, rankine the fag theory, liquefaction :doubt:

I find my sub is louder when wired in parallel.

But this this thread has no specific topic, i think:
european speakers, with american amps, with american woofers, with japanese head units, with japanese processors, and american wiring is the best combination.

syeah, random audio thread!!! hyuoiua!! go wild like a fatkid with warm milk and oreos!

i have american speakers with american amps with...japanese(i think) headunit, with american wiring...

it doesn't sound too bad. Honeslty i don't think where it's 'made' matters, but its original design and where it was designed do have a bit of effect.

did u like the red devil pics??Q?!2o!

In caa some people reported the jay car monoblock to be light, seeing as i was about to get one this can't be good, i always though the heavier it was the better it was made, especially with amps, gotta do more investigation after exams to make sure i'm not missing something.

if that fails looks like fhrx has year round sales so might grab an amp from them. Mmmm american amps, so heavy yet reliable

for me, i just connected the sub to the amp, then connect the amp to the HU and you get doof doof... lol

Anyway, to keep this somewhat on topic, I'm picking up my system tomorrow after submission. Hoorah! Will be sure to post pics...

There you go read up! http://www.bcae1.com/

Be warned, you'll most likely only find it interesting once something of yours breaks first, e.g. amp.

Imagine the amount of spam after exam period, my dame! I better go on holidays to somewhere without the internet.

Hey I got all dis :)

Edit: Oh and guys... BASS BOOST IS EVIL!

In fact any form of EQ boost is not good for SQ, it introduces crap into ur system. If you want to use EQ features... CUT dont boost!. You can happily reduce levels with the knowledge that everything that is coming through ur speakers is not being formed from ur EQ/headunit, but from ur source disk.
And yes good to see u had a play with it Eek, u still gonna change? Or happy for now?

nono, i'm happy now...hits hard and smooth...and low:D no more muddy, Ub3r lag crap. BASS BOOST is the work of the devil...just like the 'loud' function. They all equal distorstion

Yes join my quest to buy a new car next year, i'm too dame young for a magna, quite wanna upgrade to something fast, until i realize the cheap 20k skyline i was gonna import needs over 4g insurence a year. forget about that.

Once i get a new car i'm going to start messing around with everything again, except this time i'll do it properly, like sd everything, i decided against doing it to my magna cos it's gonna get sold anyways.

But there were good memories in the magna though, it's such a good learning car for car audio and other stuff, hehehe. The ultimate workhorse

I have the perfect idea of what my installs going to be in my new car. firstly:

european speakers, with american amps, with american woofers, with japanese head units, and american wiring is the best combination.

then i'm going to install massaging chair covers in my front seats, with 2 batteries so i don't get stranded in the middle of nowhere lazing off.

Then i'll add alot of finishing touches from Pimp my ride, always a great inspiration.

I cannot live without my LOUD button.. cause it makes my system Louder.. that means less volume requiring less RCA Voltage meaning more Boom... My last deck had no loud button and I felt naked..

yeah, i think it varies from person to person. Some people (eg. u) can't live without the loud function, because it makes their system sound so much better.

then again there are others (like me) who think the loud button is the work of the devil, because it makes everything distort esp low notes. I could adjust the amp's gains, but i find the signal coming out of the headunit is already a little iffy.

anyhows, without the loud button, signal may be weaker, but you have more control of 'volume'.....if u get what i mean. gains can be adjusted to suit.

yeah its late, i won't be surprised if you're conssufsed. lol

nsitu

I wish i had s loud button! just to try, oh well i guess it's the same as putting all levels of my eq all the way up, ewww.

With everyone so against the loud button, wouldn't it be better time spent if we complained about the quality of mp3's. there is no way a loud button can do as much damage to music as 128 bit encoding, ewww.

Nope not confussed Eek, I understood it, with an Amped system, you switch loud off , it drops your Bass level allowing more volume with less distortion... See I do understand...

Argh.... Please tell me I didnt just hear that you guys actually use the loud button!!!

Nooo.... My work here has all been in vain...

I would prefer bass boost to the loud button...

A headunit/amp can only output x. Once it goes past x it goes into clipping. Feeding a bass heavy signal into ur amp just means it will still distort at x. But since the signal is bass heavy, once it reaches audible distortion, ur overall volume will be less.... (Yes bass/midbass may be at max, but all other frequencies must be lower.)

The only possible reason ud want to use this is if ur headunits pre amps were really small, even still demanding such a bass heavy signal from the pre-amp would drive that into distortion.

With the exception of bass control, I don't see the need to distort a musicians art...
If you like bass heavy music, just listen to bass heavy genre's eg: rnb/dnb etc.

less is more...

Peace

Tim

Its like a 'u' shaped cushion that have a velcro strip htat holds it onto the metal rails below the head rest....i'm sure u can find seat cushions that do this lol

no 1 most hated unit: Electrical engineering and programming - had to learn VB, C and C++ programming, plus electrical circuits...i know i'm civil wtf am i doing learning this shit?

When, as a civil engineer, will I ever need to know how to use visual basic or make circuits that drive a little car? Or draw flow nets for sh*t underground! I'm here to build stuff :D

Wish I was drinking and being stupid on a dancefloor instead of studying tho...

yeah, car is stock, except stereo and a few things here and there.

phoenix gold...well, i'm obviously a little biased. Again, i say its better than mainstream stuff like sony, clarion, kenwood, some alpine, cadence etc

just as good, if not better than rockford, jl, some of jbls etc etc

hehe, not all teh show car stuff is top of the range stuff. they just have trippy looking installs and don't always sound as good :P

anyways, top of the range...wow, where do i start. you can't exactly say 'bam' this is the best, because every company its good at making different things, and most have a range of products from cheapo budget to uber expensive ones...

not to mention buyer tastes that come into play..like nakamichi headunits are known for their quality sound output and reliablity, where as they look like a conservative 80 yo virgin geek designed it....where as jvc and alpine make some drool worth PIMP looking headunits..

yea I know what you mean. I'm definately keen to get the alpine deck- cos it has the looks, performs well (from what I've been told), has enough features to confuse anyone who enters the car and wants to turn down the volume or change my music lol and cos its an alpine.

They are known to make good quality, reliable gear that sounds good. Now I may be biased but thats kind of how I've been exposed to the universe of car audio. I'm just trying to broaden my hoirizons a bit by checkin out different brands and gear. So, as far as that goes, how does PG compare with alpine in terms of speaker sound and performance? I've been looking at Ti6 comp elite's. They're expensive for a uni student like me at about $700 so I'm trying to decide whether they'll be noticably better than alpine type R splits or coaxials...

DD's apparently sound ok... from the eyes of DD Phil. Lots of mid bass but I would say they lack mid range as all DD is aimed at reproducing <250Hz at rediculous levels. Apparently the splits got 135odd db on termilab mounted in the doors run of decent power ( 150WRMSodd ea ).
