Yes. I went into my dealer, car is 2.5 years old. Said to them that the paint on the surrounds of the rear window were peeling away...

They said: no worries, we'll replace the whole window for you. OK, I said.

No charge. Under warranty. :)

What is funny, is even though they ordered the screen based on my VIN ... a Vrx with no rear stoplight at all in the window area... the style of the surround is quite different... thinner edging and different style. Maybe I got a series two.. or a TL... anyone know? My car is a series 1.5 (July 2002)

See the pix.

Probably, the part is superseded, and what you have now is the new version that will not have the problem that the old one did, if they just replaced it with the same part whats to stop it happening again.

My moms car had a similar thing they replaced the rear window and i also have the exact same rubber surround around the window.

Which they also said was from the latest model being the TL-TW.

I'm also very keen to get this done as it looks pretty bad on my car as well. The big question is what happens to the tint? Will they also replace that or do you have to go and pay for retinting?

Dunno. Not an issue for someone with a stock car like mine. I imagine they would not pay for your tint. :)

mums old verada had the rear windscreen replaced coz it kept rattling and i noticed that the seal was norrower.
I later found out that certain TJ's had been fitted with the wrong size rear windscreens, they were too small and in some cases they came loose and rattled over slight bumps. They reckon they didnt hold a recall because not every one would have a problem with it but would fix the ones that people noticed a rattle in.
When she took it in first time, they tightened it then a week later the rattle came back, and it wasnt a little rattle, it was damn annoying and loud. So out came the whole windscreen and a new one was put in free of charge, of course.

But they are simply the wrong sized windscreens that were installed into some TJ and KJ models, dunno why... neither did the service manager at Mitsubishi...

Interesting.. that's possibly why the service manager in my case emphasised the VIN matching. Maybe they know all about what you are saying. I never had the rattle or leak, though. :)
