Went to put front 6.5' speakers into front doors yesterday and came up with an idea, would it be worth soldering the plate on the factory speaker that attaches to the black plug onto my other speakers?? what you think, is it better to solder them or would using the factory plug do just as good a job?

soldering gives better quality of sound....but plugs are easier.....since im so lazy i prefer plugs...and since soldering irons hate me so they burn me...alot

Soldering gives a more secure connection, not so much an Improvement in sound..
Working behind a Head unit in such a tight space is a disaster with a Soldering Iron. I prefer to Crimp and Tape with proper connectors...
That way I do not have to mess around when re-selling or Giving my Audio Gear away.. Nothing worse then Buyiing a 2nd hand woofer with Un usable Speaker terminals due to soldering..

Blade type connectors will fit into the Standared Plug and provide a Good enough connection..

I dont think anyone can honestly notice the difference soldering makes to sound quality in an environment such as a car for an install under 20k.

Soldering does ensure your install will still be working 10 years down the track. And that it is electrically safe.

Solder itself is a worse conductor compared to decent speaker wire so should not be used as the glue, more as the coat.

yeah, u wouldn't hear the difference.

as for stuffed up terminals...hmm, unless u put the solder and iron up to the terminal for like, 20mins or something u'd have screwed it up. If u wanna sell it, just snip off the speaker wire, put a soldering iron up the solder, and grab a 'solder sucker' thing till its clean :)

Yeah I always solder, but Im not the average person when it comes to that! I can solder to medical and space specs due to my job (hand soldering little pins that are 0.127mm apart! :D ), so a speaker terminal is a piece of cake lol
I also havent found a connector yet that Im 100% happy with as far as reliabilty goes.
Solder suckers or solder wick are your friend when it comes to cleaning terminals, both are very easy.
And no you wouldn't notice the difference in sound.
