Hiya,

Please excuse a n00b but I need to know about putting early model Magna EFI onto an early Mitsu. Scorpion (like Sigma = RWD 2.6). Does anyone know if there's a new fuel pump I have to use rather than the mechanical one on the side of the Scorpion head? It's started leaking and I either put up with it until I can get the EFI (currently has stock carby) or fix it.

Any other hints about putting early Magna FWD EFI into a RWD Scorpion/Sigma?

It's only for a dirty paddock basher/Wakefield Park beast.

:D

Tony.

None, really, except make sure that you've got everything, otherwise it gets cranky, and won't start. Sigma-Galant.com would be able to tell you exactly, as it's a common conversion for them.

OK, so the difference between the FWD and RWD Astrons is anything I need to consider? Can I use the FWD block in a RWD car?

People on SigmaGalant.com are talking about changing heads, what's up with that? Are there sensors I need to put on the Scorpion motor? Would I be better off asking over there?

The Magna head flows much better than any of the RWD 2.6 heads off the shelf. That's why most change over. The FWD 4G54 block is identical to the RWD Sigma AUTOMATIC block. There's a few other differences, but I can't remember them at present

A low volume electric fuel pump would work in your application if your carby allows flow through (ie. fuel in and back out to the tank).

Hook up to your ignition and you should be OK.

two main problems with fitting an EFI magna 4cyl into a RWD application
1. the water pump is on the back of the block in a magna, this can be overcome by using a welch plug in the rear of magna block and also using a RWD timing case and water pump.
2. the standard magna EFI manifold will point the throttlebody into the firewall. the throtle body has to be relocated to the other end of the plenum

I think, engine mount bolt locations are different on the FWD blocks too.
