Hi! Just bought a 4 cyl 94 TS auto (carby) and it's idling fast, up around 2000 rpm but occasionally settling down to around 1200-1500. I've adjusted the throttle cable adjuster right back (I've even taken the bolt out compteletly) but to no avail. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Update - just read about the ICS motor in this thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10148), and I get a very slight drop in RPM when turning on the air conditioning. Sounds like this is it... how much should RPM's increase when A/C is turned on?

According to the manual it should be idleing at 800, + or - 50
I don't think your car has a ISC because it's a carby and that is for EFI
But i notice with mine that it idels alittle higher in cold weather even when warmed up.
When the air con is on it should drop down but not like mine does because mines a manual
a few things i could think that are wrong are
- butterfly is stuck sligthly more open than it should be
- acclerator cable is to tight
-a kick ass carby has been installed on the car to replace the pos carby
on the back of the carby there is a idle speed screw/knob... adjust that...
that what mine needed - and now idles nice

it could also be a vacuum hose is disconnected somewhere allowing extra air into the inlet manifold that is raising the idle

I know that this isn't an answer to your problem but I lowered my idle speed to about 800 and I found that when it was a cold night it was having a bit of trouble idling. I then turned it up to about 950 and it seems to be a lot better.

Whats the normal idle speed for a EFI astron in a TR? At the moment ours is ideling at about 600 but i was thinking this is maybe abit low and it would idle abit smoother if it was moved up abit. Any truth to this?

efi or not... astron II 2.6 are supposed to idle around 800 I believe

Yeah it's between 750/850 but I've found that on my auto, 1000 is better in winter.
