Well, it's a piggyback system but you know that. Ego has a cool thread here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15992&highlight=haltech).

The short answer is a 10kW gain at peak power and a good gain across the rest of the rev range.

Kebab was crap too. Gained some undesirable power there too. :bowrofl:

I'm not sure and I can't find it sorry. I know it's the third one they've released and there's several articles on supercharging Gen 3's.

Agreed. It was something to burn the time.

Headed to APC at Underwood yesterday morning and left the car with them. It wasn't as straight forward as I'd hoped but this wasn't due to the tuning or fitment. I walked to Garden City shopping centre to burn the hours away and half way there I got a call asking if I'd liked the injectors cleaned while they were out as they were doing a compression test. I said yes figuring that the Mitsu cleaning stuff does nothing and they were probably never cleaned properly.

They did a before dyno, (with an AF ration richer than Bill Gates), the compression test came back all go and put it back together again. After a few minutes it ran rough so they looked at them again. Sure enough, the flow test showed one of them was buggered. They all worked fine in their duty cycle however one wouldn't shut off all the time so it would be dumping fuel into the cylinder while there was still line pressure. The fact that it wasn't clean masked any potential problems.

I had a choice between one new injector or 6 second hand. I went for the second hand and glad I did. Slightly more expensive but the ones they sold us were 3.5l ones and dumped heaps of fuel when they started tuning it. Puzzled them for a few minutes until they realised what had been sent.

They did the tune and yeah, results look great on paper. On the road it's been hard to gauge as I'd been stuck driving the Astra for a day or two so anything bigger feels heaps better. The main thing I've noticed so far is that it doesn't feel as though the torque kicks in just before the 3000 mark like it used to as low rpm torque has improved.

Also...you walked all the way from APC at Underwood to Garden City?!
I was at garden city yesterday too...only cuz i parked there lol

also, friend of mine is down at the coast now...if not some time this afternoon looking to buy a 3 door silver astra

Pretty much. Oh, something else of interest. Rob and Nick did a dyno run with the intake from the airbox forward removed and the difference was a gain of 3-4kW.

Yeah? I actually wondered if anyone would be around. Almost rang Rav to see if he'd know anyone. I popped into Rebel Sport then into the centre and did several laps looking at stuff. Yup, quite a walk. Took 90 mins I think and only 10 mins in a taxi in the other direction. Oh, better add that to my list :bowrofl:

hahahah, yeah a fair bit of a walk indeed!!!! I guess u brought the orange powerade after your walk huh lol hehe, walking distance to my house too ;)

r u saying without the snorkel (piece of plastic that goes from top of radiator to airbox) removed, u lost 3-4kw?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. It gained 3 - 4kW and didn't lean the car out at all.

Heh heh... well, the unit was a good price but the labout killed it a little. I mean, there's a few hours chasing this dodgy injector, cleaning them, the cost of new ones, the leads then the dyno tuning.

Not cheap but in the grand scheme of things, it was needed.

I doubt this will get me into the 14's but the 22nd will give some results.

Good stuff Redav. Glad to hear the chip worked out first time for you! *kicks his own chip *

Add $20 worth of PVC to your shopping list and run up a CAI system and you can keep those 3-4kW.

Any chance to the shape of the curve? You say torque picked up earlier so I'm guessing the area under the curve is a bit larger than before? Bah, just post the damn dyno sheet already lol

Yeah, I was going to look into something before the next step in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah. Only gripe about that is that it was done in 4th gear so the speed goes from 90kph to 160kh, (peak power I think), so that's 4000 rpm - 6000 rpm. I'll post it today.

Adrian, any ideas if it's possible to re-graph this stuff? I know that the data for each run gets stored and you can play with the scale of the axis.

Hi All,

Yep, your dyno curves will be stored on the dyno PC until it runs out of space and they delete them... he can regraph them and adjust the data etc.

You have the option to give a ratio of wheel speed to RPM, and then the dyno graph will have RPM as the bottom axis... I normally do this, as it is easier for tuning if you see a rich or lean point, you can easily work out where to adjust the maps.

cthulhu,

We will get your car sorted... it seems that your factory ECU is not reading the MAF frequency for some reason... with a scan tool to see what it is reading, this could be sorted quickly.

Ego,

Havn't heard from you in a while... is the interceptor all good?

I have faith! It's probably worth saying that I don't consider my various problems to be any fault of Haltech's or the product.. just bad luck really. In fact, if anyone, I blame TNT for not accepting the parcel for delivery at 3:02pm when you tried to send it lol if it had made the plane it would have be installed and tuned and sorted at Street Torque while I was there.

I now return you all to Redav's scheduled programming...

Well, after driving around a bit since Tuesday and I can say I can notice an improvement in drivability. The 3.0l's character was to lack a little down low and then have a sudden increase in torque around the 2800 - 3000rpm mark. My car doesn't exhibit this very much now as I think low rpm torque has picked up. The final test for this is the drags to see how my 60' time goes. It feels slightly meatier above this and it revs out better than before. It actually doesn't feel breathless at 6000 lie it used to and continues through to 6500. Something else I've noticed is that it starts quicker now :D

I'll also keep tabs on economy. Overall I'm quite pleased.

During the same period of time - I went to Oporto and spent whole $ 7.70 for 2-Bondi and Pepsi.
Does it count?

Nice work dude!

What was your kW @ FW before Haltech? ~ 110, was it?
What is generally the diff @ FW on same donk compared to Auto and Manual? On average?
My guestimation: Auto loses some 30% and Manual some 25%.

~112kW before ~123 after. We've got a dyno day coming up where I've recorded 118kW previously. That will be interesting.

Well, from factory it's obviously 140kW but it makes me wonder. I mean, I pulled 148HP at the wheels before anything had been done to it. I've usually gone for the HP at the wheels is ~ the flywheel kW. It's only a rule of thumb though. Absolute numbers don't interest me soo much though. To me what counts is relative gains and the area under the curve.

Too much onion. It was a combo lamb / beef / chicken with lettuce, onion, tomato, cheese, mushrooms and BBQ sauce. It was from UTK's. Pretty ordinary.

Definately - there is no reason to believe that one dyno reading absolutely equals another. They vary way too much. And on our puny numbers, 5 kW is "major" difference - 5 kW differences per dyno/reading without engine mods is common, eh?
Even if u have a reading, go and do mods and come back to the same dyno, it's not necessarily accurate indication. Regardless of claims that this and that dyno always provides absolute results. Perhpas operator differences, dunno.
Even 1/4 strip time would not be absolute - temp, air pressure, oil, loads etc etc affect results.
But, as long as one spends bunches of money and is happy with it, that's the main thing. :D
