Guys, i know this question has probably been thrown around a million times...but

Ive got a 2001 Sports,

i want to put some 30mm king springs in(insurance reasons for 30mm drop).....is it worth it ?

someone mentioned the sports already has a 15mm drop spring in them...but i have no idea...

if it does, its not worth the 300 to get it lowered another 15mm

any thaughts ?

cheers
Nath

wouldnt bother really, unless u get some secondhand one and put them in urslef the cost outweighs the maount u get it lowered

if it was me i would just invest in strut braces, rear sway bays and other assorted suspension thingamajigs

if you buy king 30mm drops it will drop your sports around 15mm. As you said your sports is around 15mm lower than an exec.

I put 30mm kings in my Sports and it was a waste of time, it looked no better

Put king lows in it... that what i put in it after that. It should drop it 45mm from an exec height which should be around 30mm drop for your Sports.

At the end of the day its very hard to argue about the exact drop. The insurance company wont argue if its around an inch cause other things can affect the height of the car from the road (ie what tyres your running)

will it be worth it to just stiffen up the ride ?
cos i need to reduce body roll..

or will a strut brace do that ?

well if u dont care about ride height for looks then yeh go with the above suggestions of other suspension mods

Sway bars are what you are looking for if you dont want to lower it. However if your insurance company says you can only lower 30mm from standard and yours is already 15 lower than an exec then go the 45mm should be fine.

yer i rang racv and they said u cant add the 30 to the 15 already..

i was told i need to ring pedders, get them to fit, or supply springs and they will give me a number ( i took that as a cover note saying my car is legal and insurable ) and give that back to the insurance company....so then its legally insured.

the 30mm is pretty much just a bull**** guideline, that can be jumped............

*edit...pedders for $630 installed..... i think NOT

Which pedders was that? On previous car I had new springs shocks and rear sway bar fitted for $1050. That was at Alexandria before it burnt down. Try Mascot?? or other stores. Or try somewhere like KMAC/Allsprings where you can get custom springs and see if they will doctor the invoice for you, sure it wouldnt be the first time.

I had 300mm pedders fitted to my TF years ago for $300, most places are around 350-400 :P

Just get your current springs compressed 30mm and have the company that compress' them write on the invoice, lower car 30mm

The car will then definitly be 30mm lower that what it is right now, you wont loose the comfort of your ride and your insurance company will be happy.......

Im looking into the same thing. l take it the bulk of this, is that for the cost, its just worth gettin the originals compressed

Youll want stiffer shocks and springs, add on some thick front and rear sway bars + strutbrace.

Will handle better than any superlow car out there.

After travelling at over 200 in the stock vrx i was quite suprised at how well it stuck to the road.

There was no way in hell i was doing that in my lowered vrx..

What did you have done in your VRX, Bain? Superlows at the front?

I've got Kings Lows all round in my Sports and it handles great at over 200kph. Definately an improvement in handling and feel over the stock suspension setup.

Superlowf ronts and lows rears (King Springs) with monroe GT gas sports riders.

Lows would be a better choice for handling over the superlows. Going over bumps and such at high speeds the car could get alot of bounce.. Almost enough to bounce you off the road.

180km was easy and good, but getting past that it became a hit or miss affair.

If you had to do suspension work, i would change out your shocks not springs first + sway bars and strut brace. Then id change out the springs in the sports/vrx.

Just Lowered Tj V6si With King Springs & Kyb . Used Kings 45mm But They Only Dropped 35mm Out Of Box, Will Prob Settle Another 5mm. Looks Nice Handles Sweet. Obviously Not Real Low Compared To Sum But Was Restricted By Terrain Where I Live Ie: Lots Of Steep Driveways, Lack Of Inverts, Etc. Part No. For Kings Are Fronts-kcfl 42, Rear Kcrl 43. See J.pegs.
