Hey anyone got any ideas to make my stock TR 2.6 EFi Auto beat my mates stock VP? i dont have much cash, i just forked out about 2 grand coz my head gasket went... then we took the head off and it was pitted to all hell... then we pressure tested the radiator, and it wouldnt even flow... bugga. just after i forked out $850 bucks to fix my trans... so im strapped for cash lately. oh yeah, one of me mates has a swift GTi, its a long shot, but how can i kill it? he thinks hes top s*** coz he drives a jap mobile. Any cheap performance ideas? preferably stuff i can do myself, ive already given the mechanics in my town too much money.

oh yeah, i almost keep up with my next door neighbours 5.0L VN...

meh its obviously moving on in years by the sound of the work your doing to it. Buy a 3rd gen. The more mods you do to it the more your going to rev it the harder its going to work and the more likely it is to fall apart!

i don't really want to spend too much more, im getting something new at the end of the year... sure as hell not a commo... i might get a 3rd gen, they can look pretty hot and me mates olds own one and it goes like hell... yeah, im probly gonna do a cai soon, i heard something about attacking the inside of the wheel arch with a holesaw, theres already a small hole behind the battery, and that looks easier than routing something all the way through down into the front bar, coz the 2.6 engine bay is pretty all over the place.

dont worry about even trying.. just save your money and buy a third gen or a V6 second gen

leave those cars to our v6's, and you should buy one too a third gen would be slightly faster stock....oh and your hacking doesn't sound too good.

By the way swift gti = DOHC swift = piece of crap i've eaten one and i'm basically down a cylinder but saving it soon....

Swift easy to beat. if you haven't got the funds for a new car, just do the general things as stated earlier. exhaust, cai, extractors, filter etc. After that is when you're gonna start paying a few more dollars.

To prevent this forum having another thread titled something like "I killed a Commodore!" i'm not going to offer you any advice lol

I am not up to speed on 2nd gens and I am no expert, but would think this is potentially one of the worst things you could possibly do... the amount of crap that might be drawn in through the wheel arch would just murder your air filter, and subsequently power. Just IMO

Edit: Welcome to the forums by the way :D enjoy your stay!

2nded i bought my 2nd gen even though i could afford a 98 model verada for a few more grand, just love the shape...3rd gens are more refined though are obviously lower k's.

thanks again ppls! killed me mates fwd gemini on monday, had before the power came on, which is sayin something, coz it has nuthin til 3 and a half grand... ive seen that same car keep up fair well with me mates swift, so i reckon it should be pretty close if i give him a go. all it has is a cat back and pod filter, which is suckin hot air at the moment coz of no heat shielding. it makes all the right noises, but only about 100hp at the crank. i should wreck him... i hope!

Its A Matter Of Pride People!!
That Swift Is Going Down!!

(when i get some petrol, supermarket wages...)

I cant second how much a high flow filter makes a difference. I mean its not fully mega difference but it helps heaps. Even if you are saving up for a third gen get a high flow panel filter anyways. And pull off the little extended pipe thingy off the end of the airbox. It helps it breathe a little easier :D

yeah, fwd gemini. izuzu badged, made in japan. a little square thing, 1985 model. i think it was the last model made. anyhoo, in reply to the reply ;) about taking the snorkel off the airbox, done. cooler noises resulted, now my car sounds like a subie at high revs, and i hate it.

iv modified my gen2 5speed 2.6litre a bit and he holds its own against fords pretty easier and commodores being pretty 50/50
my mates el falcon stays behind me still 80odd then its pretty even till 140-145 and he goes ahead while racing vn's off the mark i find myself behind because of there low end torque but if racing on the roll its a bit different

140!? your racing off road in controlled conditions right? lol lol lol
yeah, he would take off, theyre bloody heavy, but they have about 150-160kw, up high in the revs though, thats why he'd get ya then.
well, me neighbours 5L VN takes me off the mark... and in second... and third... and fourth... and fith... oh well

yeah, its shockin, that auto box sucks so much power out of it, and the kickbacks are soooo bloody slow, you could almost get out and push and you'd be going faster!!!!
still lookin for a 5spd V6...

Thanks heaps Monga.

Could I push it and ask for details of your cold air set-up?

Oh, and can I get your Mum to drive my car? :)

Monga
23-06-2005, 10:13 PM
Yeah pal, basically picked up some cold air induction pipe designed for CAI and connected it directly to the airbox via the side of the battery then heading down to the bottom of the car near the front bumper area, I put a K&N Panel in the airbox also
Today my car chugged for a while though because some water got into it hahahahah
using a pod is also another option, try searching CAI some interesting things pop up

My one is a wagon, v6 manual, and as stated, I found it first go. It was on the list. I was also looking at a nice darkish blue sedan (again in manual). Had spoiler and rims, but was the 4cyl. Thank god I didnt get it...
