I have a 4 x 50W RMS amp (Response brand - Go Jaycar amps! lol). I was thinking of bridging it so as to give 2 x 150W and using it to run my front speakers, or should I have 50 W going into my fronts, and send 150W into a sub. Im not sure. Ive put a poll on to make it easier

150W for fronts is a tad overkill, most main stream speakers can handle only half of this..
Give the fronts 50 W each and the sub can use the other 150W..

Don't underestimate the importance of lots of power to the front stage; if you have strong mid-bass you can sometimes forgo having subs depending on the type of music you listen to.

yeaa, all depends on the kind of music u listen to. If its more 'rock' where there isnt much thumping bass, and mostly mid-range..(like tek said) go for the bridged for fronts.

If its somethin like rap or rnb or techno? ud need a sub for the bass lines.. so bridge a sub option is the go..

what do u listen to?

How else will u run ur sub>?

And what speakers? Whats their rms rating?

The speakers I have are Sony 6" 2 ways, rated at 40w, max 170w. (Yeah, sony arent that great, but at $58 for the pair it was a good deal). I usually listen to rock, occaisionaly techno. The hope is that as they currently sound decent (at high levels) now, the amp would boost their power (as the sterio is only 35w per channel) enough where i wouldnt need a sub. well, thats the hope anyway

35W x 4 is roughly 10W RMS... True the Sony Fronts you have can only handle 40W RMS, I would use the 50W available to them from the Amp and use the Remaining 150W to Run the sub..
Once you have a Sub, you can never go back to normal Speakers..

umm, why on earth would u want to bridge ur channels to run your front speakers when u have a sub? U need 3 channels! lol

oh, and bridging a jaycar amp to run your spks would probably make them sound like peepee

Look at upgrading ur fronts when u can. I dont think it's worth putting the extra power into them personally.

I'd stick with running them off one channel each and bridging the other two for the sub

Well the idea is to have my system at the level where I dont need a sub. Mind you, I will probably end up putting one in anyway....As for upgrading the front speakers, I will when they wear out. Sure, they are sony, but at the special price strathfield were offering i couldnt refuse

If your using sony speakers, you'll definately need a sub. There's no way in hell sony speakers are known to produce enough mid bass to keep you satisfied.

150wrms is overkill for a speaker with a max of 100+-20w don't you think? Unless you do what i do and can't justify replacing working stuff and decide to melt the speaker coils, then once you've done that you won't feel guilty about getting new speakers that are actually happy with 150wrms. YAY!

Wait before you do that find out if it wrecks your amp when the coils melt, i'm not responsible if your amp goes bye bye with the speakers...

Well the decision has been made: 50w into each speaker, and 150w into a sub if i need it. Considering the hu is putting out 35w per channel max, 50w rms should be good enough to not need a sub
