I'm doing some work on my rear doors involving installing a pair of Eclipse point-source series 6.5" 2-ways and want to keep the door trims looking semi factory still if possible, does anyone have an idea as to how much the speaker grilles for the front doors of a TJ are worth?

I'll also be installing a second Eclipse PA5422 4-channel Amp in the process, which i'll probably locate under the drivers seat as I allready have one under the front-passenger seat.

Thanks

Monday came and I got the answers i need from Mitsu, they want $34 dollars for each speaker grille. The price you pay to keep things looking stock when they arent.

But why put speakers in the rear doors?? they fire directly across the cabin leaving the driver and front passenger with no benefit..

Stick to the front doors and rear shellf...

Rear doors are the best spot, at least that way the passengers can get some accurate staging, When there are no passengers turn em off or fade em back.

But the rear doors are such a small cavity, Mid Bass would suffer ??
My Mondeol had Speakers in All Doors and sounded Terrible... So I sold it for a Car that actually had rear shelf speakers...

Midbass doesnt need a large cavity. Sealed door pods or kick panel pods are very tiny, Midbass itself only needs a few litres. The doors themselves are quite big.

i think door mounting does give passengers better imaging. Friend of mine has a VW Bora, and it has splits in the doors in the passenger area. Doesn't sound too bad! ;)

My aim was more to increase volume in the rear, that asside i've now put the rear door idea on hold until next month and will do a center channel at the same time in place of the ash tray and cig lighter.

Tomorrow however the car will be getting some new Eclipse 3-way 100W RMS splits (SC8365 (http://www.eclipse-web.com.au/component/sc8365.html)) and a second Eclipse 4-channel amp (PA5422 (http://www.eclipse-web.com.au/amp/pa5422.html)) - 800W Peak.

Not necessarily just because the speaker grills are directly opposite one another doesn't mean anything as to the direction the speak is aimed in...

So you intend on a custom mounting so they fire in a Certain Direction..Sounds like a Dolby Digital system on wheels... Sounds cool..

I currently have a set of the older 2-way Eclipse point-source series splits in the front (85W RMS?) but I decided to take advantage of the extra holes that the Ralliart has for front speakers now that Eclipse have a 3-way component series available and it just so happens that they can handle a little more power also. So should be smiles all round. :D

/Edit - Now that I think about it, might just move my current 2-way Eclipse splits to the rear doors instead of buying some coaxials next month, rear door idea is back on again provided that the installers have time to do the work tomorrow! :D

That's the idea, I hope to eventually get the system to the stage were I can approach Eclipse for some sort of sponsorship as I know the guys down at Alberts very well and they are the only distributor of Eclipse gear in WA.

Magna doors have a bit of fat to them, that said using stuff like dynomat to sound deaden your doors helps mid bass heaps also!

As for your Mondeo...
What sort of speakers?
Were they mounted on axis?
Were they running off an amp?

3-way splits were fitted into the front today with the second PA5422 Amp, front stage is truely awesome now even in the factory Ralliart speaker positions!!!

Unfortunately there wasn't enough time to sort out the rear doors today though, thats now happening next thursday but the guys at Alberts Myaree did some checking and there is heaps of room to play with in the rear doors, more than you would think apparently.

i put dynamat in the front doors of my car and can notice the difference specially when you turn it up loud there's no outside rattle ... and it was fairly easy to do ... currently doing my boot with dynamat ... bit of a pain to get it all covered but just takes time and patience
