hi, ive got a pioneer deck just a 4x45w... i got sum new speakers, pioneer 6" 260w for da front n pioneer 6x9" 420w for the rear. no amp or sub. and when i crank it up it distorts alot, im wondering if this is because of the guage of standard wire and do i need change it? or just hook n amp up?

If the wire thickness is too small, yes the high qual speakers that you have will distort. When i put all my sterio crap in, i rewired the whole car, i think you may need to do the same. Its a bit*h of a job, but the sound qual after is worth it

dude, i doubt your wires would have ANYTHING to do with it sounding like crap when u turn it up.

It sounds like poo when u turn it up because you're not using an amp. You turn it up really loud on your headunit's little amp, and it struggles to put out a 'clean' sound at high volumes.

This is known as 'clipping'...basically, it just means the headunit's internal amp is struggling, and you need to turn it down, or buy an amp.

DAME the pioneers are up to 420 watts now? When i bought mine it was the highest available and it was 300 watts, my dame they progress fast. In another few years we'll be looking at 1000watt models i guess, oh well who amps 6*9's anyways.

Blur!

if ur only gonna run the speakers off the headunit don't get speakers that are high watts, remember ur head unit is only 45watts and it probably only pushes out 15-17 watts rms so u won't get much volume on ur high watts speakers and yea it will sound crap if u turn it up too much

the factory wiring will take 50 W RMS without any trouble..
If it Distorts alot then turn down the Bass.
a 4x45W Headunit will be more then suffiecient to get loud.. you just need to adjust the EQ settings on the Head unit..
turn it up to 3/4 Max volume, so if it goes up to 40, then turn it up to 30, if it goes up to 50 then tuen it up to 35, then go to your Bass and Treble menu, adjust them till it just distorts then back down one or two levels..

Try this setting and see if it works

Bass 3
Treble 4
Balance Towards the rear by 2..
Loud Setting to Mid.

Volume : 25 or 36

See if that doesnt Improve things a little...
Then post back

Did you install them your self or have a Pro do it ???
