:D

Hi guys,
For those of you who know (ie Paul), I decided not to complete my project, but managed to go as far as the conversion from the 2.6L 4 cylinder to the DOHC 6g72.

The DOHC 6G72 (with twin garret GT25s) is being used in another car, and consequently i have parts sitting in my workshop not being used which I figure may be utilised by one of you guys are interested in this conversion.

FYI the following bits are available:

Remanufactured engine mounts to suit the TR, for the 6g72 DOHC.
Front drive shaft assembly (complete) for DOHC 6g72
Remanufactured and machined drive shafts to suit DOHC 6g72
Manual V6 gearbox (imported from japan) to suit DOHC 6g72

Attached is two pictures - the first is the original 4 cylinder motor being removed. The second photo is the DOHC 6g72 fitted in the engine bay - to show it can be done.

If anyone is interested in these parts (as they are genuinely of no interest to me anymore) please contact me either via email, or mobile phone. Please think first before contacting me, it cost a lot of money for all this to be done, and although I am not asking a lot, its important to be realistic. Here is the overall cost breakdown - receipts can be provided:

Labour costs:
remanufacture and fitting driveshafts - 250
mounting engine - 400
fitting of driveshafts and accessories - 200
Parts/machining:
machining of driveshafts - 263.64
second hand engine mount - 60
second hand front drive shaft assembly (complete with brakes etc)- 590.91
TR V6 gearbox - (?? came with DOHC engine from Japan)

OK - so if you add up the parts (front drive shaft assembly + driveshaft + engine mount) you have $914.55, labour is $850.00, gearbox $300?? (guestimate).

I will sell the lot for $700.00

Prefer to have the buyer from VIC that way they can remove the parts themselves and see how it all fits together, shipment anywhere will be costly so pickup is preferable. I am in the eastern suburbs Melbourne.

Email me for questions please,
Thanks - Craig.

Zach,
I don't think there are a lot of people considering ths conversion so if you are interested - save your cash up as they will happily sit in my workshop until someone wants them.

I will be interested in how the project goes, even though the motors now in a different car, as i am going through the process at the moment of sourcing info to put a TT DOHC in my TS (its originaly a V6 manual so i won't need any of your parts, correct me if i am wrong)
But i am going a little further with mine.
If you know of anything i need to change from what you have i am definately interested.

you are planning on geting a front cut aren't you jake, i'd like to see how long the stock ts gearbox lasts with 200kw atws stock (dynograph at APC of GTO)...in my research the mounts for the v6 should be the same but ive heard often that its 95% straight bolt up not 100%

The gearbox will be fine. It's the same as the 3000GT gearbox. And the motor will bolt in

actually i am thinking more use the AWD gearbox and centre diff, and fabricating my own rear end, i am not going to have a TT DOHC motor putting all the power through just the front wheels

Hey good luck with the sale. I'm sorry but i'm not in the market for this stuff but I was wondering if you got the stuff that you did certificated by an engineer and how much it roughly would cost for an engineers certificate if you did get it certified.

He couldn't finish the car, it was not near registration time. Plus Craig is an engineer himself ;)

Not sure how it works in VIC, he may have been able to certify the mods himself. In NSW you have to go to a selected engineer by the RTA.

Certification/Registration was not the issue, I abandoned the project for two reasons, the first being a complete lack of interest (sorry) and the second was money/hassle with the DOT for other mods I wanted with the car (suspension. chassis mods). I decided the best route to go was build an ICV and use the DOHC in that...which is where I am at now. ICV is Individually constructed vehicle...like a kit car.

yeah yeah its 3 years old, but im bored @ TAFE so rummaging through old threads.
this might be helpful to anyone wanting to do this?
Pretty awesome information here
And pretty sure this is the japan spec model or otherwise known as the "cyclone" engine. as you see no variable butterflys in the intake manifold

trust you to pull up a 3 year old thread.. not only did you mine it, you actually went and used dynamite to uncover it :P yeah good thread.. i dont get it though, i thought you had to weld a new gearbox mount in to be able to fit the 6cyl motor in? he doesnt include that..

edit: nvm read it again.. what sort of remanufacturing do you need?
