Yes oils matter!
I use Mobil 1 in both cars. There's a new type of Mobil 1, it's in a new bottle and has SuperSyn.
It cuts wear down by 70% over previous Mobil 1.
I would get that or Magnatec.

i use gtx-3, as a result smoother revs and warms up quicker in the morning. no complain so far...

These motors use thick oil 20W-50 is the recommended weight for the V6.
I've used the magnatech and it made the engine tick like nothing else. I didnt even drive it for longer than a day before I drained it out and put some 20W-50 in it.

Oil does matter and it matters also from day one, from the moment I got my car I have run synthetic but I would not reccomend it with the older magnas and those that have run normal oil unless, one the engine is in very good condition and two you do a complete flush. I use 5-50,
Now a little about oils, when a oil is at top temp they are all the same, thin running stuff that runs around the engine. What makes them different is the numbers a 5-50 which is what i use means the oil is thin enough to get around the engine fast when cold, better for the top of the motor but has a massive heat resistance. A 20-50 is harder to push around the engine when cold although handles the same heat, of course a 20-40 has less heat resistance and breaks up quicker, If you rev the engine hard you really should run synthetic, but you have to prepare the engine for it

Magnas don't need Mobil 1...
I use MagnaTec 10-40 rating... :D
ok so let me get this straight the best thing for a new tj2 magna 3.5v6 would be ? 10 W 50 ?
will 5 w 50 make it a tad bad in summer ?
im sure cautious atm so im interested to know what i should get
also like josh said does mixing screw your engine ?
I've used the magnatech and it made the engine tick like nothing else.
That is so true, my mate had the same problem with his Galant. We changed the oil the same day.....
They say magnatec sticks to the engine parts to remove engine wear.....how true that is i dont know, but if it stick to parts how the hell are u ment to get it all out when yur changing oil? Magnatec sounds bad.
I'm using Penzoil Multivis atm, it seems good.

omg, people...
the 6g72 (3.0L) and 6g74 (3.5L) Magna engines can have lifter problems, using a synthetic oil with a low rating can cause premature lifter wear. Using an oil with at least a 10-40w rating is reccomended by RPW... Best to use a high quality Mineral Oil, as you all know synthetic is very thin, the lifters require thick lubrication or else they "TICK".

I only use synthetic in my gear box as it is a smoother gear changed when warmed up - when cold it is a b!tch- but warm it is great!!
(This a manual trans only - use proper mitsu auto trans for ATM)
