quick question, anyone else with auto boxes out there, is urs touchy, or does it take ages for the power to build up b4 it shoots off, im starting to get pissed off with the lag time from me pressing the accel down to the point where the car takes off

Flow the throttle body - gets air in faster and gets you moving without having to hammer the throttle all day.
I know a guy who does these at a good price for the AMC members lol

yeah i now the TE TF boxes are very slow to react the th tj are heaps better and always in the right gear and always smooth

Usually in the right gear - computer controlled gearboxes are great... I had a hydraulic box that was in the wrong gear 49% of the time (at least).
There is also the shift kit option too. Shiftkits.com.au are apparently working on a shiftkit(duh) for the 3rd gens, but as yet it remains vapourware.

As they are a computer controlled gearbox with memory, they adapt to a driving style, eg if driven smoothly with no flat throttle they become hesitant to kick down as it is not normaly required, but if you start driving your car flat foot and if the car does not kick down, back off and then back on the power to induce a down shift, do this repeatadely until you do not need to purposley induce a downshift and the gearbox control unit will eventually adapt to kick down earlier, it does take a while though, can easily take days. It worked in my verada
Thats the best i can explain it
Hope it helps

yeah my auto TE sucks monkeys balls,
slam the accelerater and itl take 1-2 Seconds to change
i brake hard into a corner, slam my foot down on the accelerater and it bogs down and changes down consecutivley until in 1st then kicks in takes off.
*** annoying

Wow, my TH isn't like that at all, it's very responsive, both from a standing start and shifting down when rolling. Was even before I had the TB flowed, even better now. :)

yeah thats what i said they improved the computar and put newer memory in the computar in the TH models up are really smooth and kick down much smoother and quicker and are always in the right gear

I hate the SLOW kickdown in the tippas. You tap back, the light on the dash hasn't moved, so you tap again only to drop back to 1st at 80km when you were holding 3rd about to pull 2nd for a burn around a truck or something. I imagine people just look over and think "what's this d!ckhead doing?!"
So MMAL (we know you're watching :shifty: ), at least get the gear select lights moving at the same speed as the driver's request - even if the gear hasn't selected yet!

My car wouldn't change down to 1st at half that speed, even if you tried. Can't say I've noticed the lights changing slower than the gears either. My only real complaint is that when in manual mode it's a bit edgy about letting the revs getting too low - often it downshifts an instant before I do - result: two gears for the price of one.

= very unexpected decelleration aka compression lockup. Once was enuf
Only the 2nd time I've ever spun the wheels of the AWD. Funny how both times I was doing 80kph.....

My TH auto is spastic...usually gets the right gear when I want it, but occasionally, when you are going up a hill and need to drop back to first, the damn thing wont change back, even manually selecting first it still wont shift back, so you have to crawl up the hill...pisses me off so much  :chainsaw:

I have a TH 2000 model and i use my auto shifter like a manual. hahaha Only thing is, i cannot go into first gear unless im at around 45km/h, but then i can floor it to around 80km/h in 1st gear.
