Does anybody know if Mitsubishi does an manual version of their AWD Magna?? I am currently looking at the TW VRX's and it seems that you can get a 5spd Manual FWD. If you want a AWD model then you have to take the Tiptronic??
Anybody got any clarification?

The AWD magna's only come in 5speed tiptronic auto.

You'll just have to buy yourself an EVO then OR just put up with an auto AWD magna.
There pretty good but not as responsive as a manual.
How do i know? I got to drive 1 of the 2 prototype manuals made (they were a bit rough but nice to drive)

Ya could say that. They used a EVO 6 5speed from what i can remember and the cars were pulled apart at the end of it as far as i know

Those boxes are available but what else would you need, wouldnt do it for a while but would be interested. Does anybody know the differences about the auto from the FWD to AWD, like how much power they can handle etc?

I am very interested in this, as i wouldnt mind doing a manual conversion in the future... if it is even possible/viable

Ralliart Rally Team guys told me about the manual mules last year. They were apparently both scrapped. The Rally Team were hoping to get them but MMAL wanted stock AWD to compete and win to demonstate the system and car to the public.
Would be a top combination: 200kw/420nm, Manual, AWD, headbang to that tune boys.

Any idea what would be involved to convert a current 5-spd manual FWD to an AWD ?

****loads. Different front crossmember, fuel tank, rear diff, transaxle, exhaust BUT the biggest hurdle is the whole centre floorpan is different, the tunnel is wider etc etc and thats juat touching the surface.

yeah i'm pretty sure the auto is the same one used in the euro spec evo's? so i guess it would be a case of seeing what is different between the auto and manual evos and take it from there?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but this reminds me of something. A few years ago (probably around 2002) and well before I was interested in Magnas, I read somewhere of the planned release the following year of a 200Kw AWD Magna, and the Ralliart was being referred as more or less a stop-gap measure until the 'real deal' arrived. I seem to remember problems with import issues, so it might have been a Japanese market model rather than the Australian one.
Anyone know anything about this? What model it was based on? Why it never happened?

Not really, give me your engine and I'll supercharge it :D
The stock auto tranny is meant to be good for some serious smack. I spoke to MRT last year who have prepped the EVO's for various events and they speak very highly of the Mitsubishi AWD systems and their reliability. Mind you all auto's dislike massive torque at massive revs. So forget about twin turbo, stroker kitted, 9000rpm monsters.

That was the 3L MIVEC diamante AWD that was used to evaluate the AWD for aussie land. Our models used there centre floorpan but with our enginebox so they could use the standard front suspension etc etc, The jap one's actually have wishbone front suspension (similar to the late model falcons) Ours really is a hybrid as has been documented everywhere.
I hope the info is of some use to you.

One of the only people on AM has already converted his TH FWD into a TH AWD and that as most of us know is TBuTcher
Here is a link.
