hey everyone, im new to the magna scene and have just paid for a 1990 tp mistu magna.
heres a few pics and i wondering what ur thoughts were. It cost me $1400 no rego but did have rwc.I also wanted some basic idea of any faults and or problem areas with this model that ill need to keep an eye on. Being front wheel drive im sure ill have to keep an eye on the cv's joints and i know that mistubishi had recalled the front seat belt stalks due to cracking. Any othe info would be appreciated. Also so wondering if anyone know of a web site where i can check out all the vin numbers and get to know what they stand for. Apart from the paint being a bit faded and the shocks being alittle spungy it runs very smooth.pic are to big and cant be attached sorry

as for problems
auto gearboxes....not to strong at all, yet if you know a bit about mechanics its not to hard to convert to manual, theres a few threads around and im doing a write up on the following
auto-manual
carby-efi
replacing a head
changing cam
changin rocker gear
changing cvs
car audio
and other basic stuff,
apart from the auto gearbox the other things ive known to be a bit dodgy on 1st gens are
Head gaskets blow a bit
timing chain, you hear when this starts to play up
tappets again you hear when they start to go
valve steams leak oil out the exhaust
cvs go a bit
generaly the shocks and springs need to be replaced yet once replaced last ages
and the other thing is engine mounts on cars this old arnt always in the best condition, if you look around you can get a mount remade in pollyurathane (so it wont break again) for about 50 a mount
and a few ppl have had air con problems, yet i personaly havnt experience anythign like that
the hardest of the above to do is the timing chain, the rest are relativly simple things to fix if they break if you know a bit about mechanics and have a haynes or gregories manual handy, those manuals are life savers and are a must if you plan to work on the car yourself
yet once any problems are sorted there a good car thats fairly comfortable to drive

ok on a tn or tp your number would look like this
TN2?XXXXXXXX
6MMTP4?XXXXXXXX
were a question mark would be replaced with one of the following to represent trim levels
although the GT'S were marked as a GLX
H = GLX
D = Executive
P = SE
S = Elante
X = Elite
what the trims show you are options pretty much eg an elite had a digital dash, power windows, high adjustable seat, dual zone air con (i think not 100% though) 4 speaker stero, high end stearing wheel suround, cruise control , power stearing, AUTO ONLY and power mirrors i think although a tm elite didnt, better matiral trim, pockets in doors, cutorsy light in doors
Elante was pretty much an elite yet manual and a body kit
SE was the next one down from elite, and could be optioned with any of the elite features except digital dash,and they had standard high end stearing wheel surround, 4 speaker radio ( i think) power stearings, auto or manual and power mirrors i think, air con
Executive, pwr stearing, pwr mirrors, 2 speaker radio, analoge dash, low end modle stearing surround, air con, auto or manual,
GLX, BASIC, low end surround,.auto or manual i think, anaolge dash, no power stearing i think, not sure on air con,

Elante was pretty much an elite yet manual and a body kit
Executive, pwr stearing, pwr mirrors, 2 speaker radio, analoge dash, low end modle stearing surround, air con, auto or manual,
elantes are SEs with kit, seats and suspension not elites also elantes came in autos
and all execs are autos
