Ok im finally getting around to doing a proper boot install. I want it to look something like the attached pic, where the big box is the boot (yes i know the boot isnt rectangle but i dont plan on the install to go past the tyre walls anyways) the red box is my 12" sub facing the ski port with a glass back. The yellow box is the false floor i am going to put in for my amps with a glass top so you can see the 2 amps on either side of the sub (the amps the the blue things).
Now my questions is where should i put my cooling fans if i will need them as the amps will be sealed in by glass and mdf i assume i will. Should i put them where the green dots are (this will be hard to set the fans in the glass, but doable) or should i put the cooling fans where the maroon dots are in the side of the mdf. I think the cooling fans im going to get are the flexiglow ones and they are about 8cm by 8cm, also how many will i need.

Hope that covers it please dont burn my drawing too much it was a 2min job and it should get my point across.

cheers, thanks in advance for any help

As far as i'm aware the trick to cooling fans is airflow, if you put the fans where the maroon dots are, and air vents where the green dots are, you should be able to good airflow therefore keeping your amps cool.

thanks dude, so ill have to have airholes in my glass then? Was hoping no to do this so no dust and junk got all over the amps.

Anyone else got any other ideas?

Ok Here goes...

I would have the Show Fans, with the LED's in them where you have the Green dot's but have another Pair mounted right next to where you have your amps, but out of site, So the Show Ones Suck the Air Down to the Hidden ones which Blow directly on to the Amps...

It is kind of hard to Explain so I will post a Piccy Guide to show wat I mean soon..

Ok, Using my Old Mondeo Install I will try and Explain

The Sub and Amp are as they Are in your planned Boot..
The Yellow Box is where the Glassed Area should be..
Now the Green Squares are where your Show Fans could be ( Not actuall in the Glassed Area but right Beside would be better)
And the Maroon Line are the Two Hidden Fans That will Blow Directly onto your Amps with some neon Illuminating your Amps

sweet, yeh that sounds alright, will change that slightly to meet my plans for my install, still deciding to go with that or angle the amps off the sub boox at the moment, but ill be starting this next weeknd if all goes to plan so ill post some pics up when i get underway.

Do you reken this deisgn i posted up will look ok or am i wasting my time with a ordinary design. As i want a design that will cost me the least amount of money and only use the front of my boot with 2 amps and 1 12" sub. Should be able to get all the mdf board i need for free and maybe even the 6mm glass for free or discounted a bit as i have a mate who is a glazier.
cheers

hey dude

i've been knocked out with the flu for a few days...did u miss my spamming? I've completely lost me voice now...but it doesn't stop me from typing

Anyway for the fan idea, don't put it on the top of the glass. For my amp rack setup, I had two fans, to get a push-pull effect. For urs, since u have 2 seperate chambers for amps, you would either get 4 fans, or just get one for each chamber and leave an opening for airflow.

Getting holes n stuff cut in glass is expensive when u get get around that. Leave a small gap between the back of the seat and the top panel of the glass panel on to for airflow.(if u still don't understand me i'll draw some pics with my ub3r phot0sh0p skillz0r)

Personally, i dont like the look of fans 'visible' in the install, even if they're LED fans. Just get black ones....they're cheaper, just as effective and probably quieter.

thanks champ

You said something about mounting the amps on a angle off the sub...
DONT attach your amps to the sub box in anyway!!!! You'll stuff your amps. The vibrations from the box will cause dry joints and snapped leads in the amp, which is not covered by warrenty.
Mount them separate like your first idea.
Keep us updated with pics!!

Cheers

nooo, do it urself u lazy boY!!

yeah, figured, u need to angle ur amps so pppl can actually see them!

also, hot air risies, so if u have the fans 'pushing' air into the chamber, it helps the hot air flow upwards :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

not lazy, just using resourcefull, may as well use the resources available and besides ill just get him to cut the mdf up for us and then ill put it all together.
