Best way not to loose your comfort is get your current springs compressed a bit

Lowering can be achived just by replacing your springs with higher sprung but shorter items, so the car sits lower but doesn't bottom out because of it. Ultimately you should probably replace your shocks at the same time but, depending on their age, that isn't always necessary.

Legally, there are minimum clearances to consider. I believe it is 100mm from the lowest point of the car to the road with 4 people on board?

Insurance wise, a lot of insurers will only insure to a certain amount below standard ride height, usually 30mm or 40mm. Check first if you want comprehensive insurance affordably.

I've got King springs in my car and you can definately feel the road more acutely. I prefer it this way, but each to their own.

If you're going to replace shocks, wait for someone else with more know-how to reply :D there are two factors affecting a shock's performance and feel but I can't remember what they are called lol
