Is a Strut brace neccessary for only a few mods? and how do you put a strut brace on, is it as simple as nut and bolt? any drilling involved?
current set up:
Front and Rear lowered with Pedders Springs.
16" with 225/40 R16 Tiger Paw tyres
not much in terms of engine mod.

A strut brace will tighten up the front end nicely. It stops stut tower flex and keeps the camber of the wheels right when turning.

cool, you've answered the first question,
what about how to put one on?
and
how much worse is it without a strut brace?

Well it's exactly what your car is now without it
Putting it on I belive it's 3 bolts on either side of the bar...It goes around the top of the strut towers.
Simple bolt on job...would take 15 minutes.
And the difference would well worth it.
Cost is just under 200 bucks I think?

eek - i really need to get this tech video up.
I have a 4 minute video of me fitting a strut brace to a car - thats exactly how long it takes including triple checking everything it tight!!!
I will contact some ppl tonight to get it uploaded so that we can have it here - tomorrow or thrusday i will provide a link for you to the first AM tech video - i know i know it was meant to be done ages ago - but i have nly just got my home PC back online!!
Oh - and i have fitted 3 of these now - my car, Cypher VR-X, and Rallipaj - easy!!

Hmm... 40 profile tyres on a 16 inch wheel. That's gotta be low. You sure
its not 55 profile which is the minimum profile legally for your model.

KB you can get front strut tower braces for the TR/TS/KR/KS now from Whiteline, it was $199 inc GST. The turn-in is definately a bit crisper but haven't given the car a hard run yet.
Easy 15min fitment with a socket wrench, allen key, and spanner but make sure you fit as per Whiteline's instructions, i.e. don't preload the brace first.
how can that little bar do anything :P

it hols the top of the struts at a certain distance from each other - this way they do not flex under load (you would be suprised howmuch they can)
so yeha - stops flex so the weight is more evenly distributed around the corner - holding the car flatter aroudn teh corner.
Makes a big difference

To be honest, I thought it was "/40", I can't be sure as the car is parked at home and i'm not home tonight, and I've been driving around my 1st Gen to work lately. If it was 225/55 R16 wouldn't that be big large? let me calculate, 55% of 225 is 123.25mm, that in inches is 5". Now, 16" rim + 5" + 5" would get you a 26" wheel. how big is the diameter of a wheel, inculsive of rubber?
if it was /40, you get 40% of 225 is 90mm, that in inches is 3.6". Now, 16" + 3.6 + 3.6 would get you a 23.2" , I think 23.2" sounds more like the size of the Wheels I have on my car, coz 26" would be ABSOLUTELY 4 wheel drive size.
you have a look:

16" with 225/40 R16 does seemed too small.. I'm pretty sure it's 225/55R16 for a Magna...All could it just be for the Sports/VRX.. I still reckon that all the magnas have the same diameter I think...

I have no idea. haha... until i find out exactly from reading the rubber on my tyres, I won't be able to say whether it is 40 or 55.
but I can be wrong, :D , so in case i am wrong, and make a big fool of myself, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, it's probably 225/55
The standard fitment on the 3rd gen is 215/60 R16 95H for the 16 inch
wheels and 205/65 R15 95H for the 15 inch wheels. Thus 225/55 R16 is
slightly smaller in diameter. 1.6% smaller whereas 225/40 R16 is way too
small, 11.7% too small.
In addition to that, the load rating can't be less than 94 and the 40 profile
tyre probably has a rating in the high 80's.
On the 2nd gens, you can fit 225/50 R16 as the minimum rating is 92.

Back to the subject of Strut Brace, I was talking to Bain0 on springs and the topic of the torque setting for the suspension tower's bolts came up.. make sure you have the torque set right. Also, the whiteline strut are adjustable, you might wanna find some time to play around with the setting to get the best feel at corners...

strut brace = fantastic mod for your car!!!
handles soooo much flatter round corners, esp. if lowered.

could you fit a strut bar from a different car and put it on, provided of course they were of the same length as the magnas? Reason is, i've seen strut bars from cars, could be factory strut bars, go for as low as 60 bucks from wreckers.

no,
this you canot do as you require the bar to bent teh right way to clear the engine and also you need to teh strut bolt thiny to have the same stud pattern as the top of the strut.
