ok peoples i have a prob...
i go to start the car in the mornin or wen weneva i leave the car off for periods longer then 10 mins , and for the first few minutes of my not so peaceful drive, i hear a very annoyin 'sorta loud clickin noise' from my engine, and the clicks get quicker as you press the go pedal (aka accelerator), now this goes away after a few minutes so i was thinkin along the lines of it being somethin to do wif the choke....
and also, i localised the sound to the middle of the engine....if that helps
cheers

maybe your lifters dude?

Valve lifters seem to be the likely culprit.
Please post what you have (engine wise... ) and what sort of oil you put in it.
Some have found a slightly thicker oil seems to help with teh noise.

No, what type of engine... Astron (4 cylinder), or 6G72 (V6), and how many kms it has done too.
And you don't know what type of oil is in your car? shame!

okay, it's starting to get a bit long in the tooth then. The V6's have this problem...
Ring your mechanic and ask what grade oil he put in it. If he says 10W-40, get him to put 15W-50 in it.
Or next time you go, tell him you want to go up to the next thicker grade of oil.
It's not a major problem, but if you are getting new cams or having something done to your heads, get it done at the same time.

i really dont think its the oil. Because the hydrolic adjasters are hydrolic they can wear out and my macanic said its common on magnas it cost me around $400 to fix

yes, it is common... but thicker oil helps them keep going for longer.
Go 15W-50 or 20W-50, see if you hear an improvement.
It's usually only when the engine is cold, so don't redline it until it warms up a bit..... chill dude!

hydraulic lash adjusters are hit by the lobes on the camshaft as it turns. The adjusters then push the valves down, if there is a significant gap it will "tick", nothing major not all unit will be faulty but probably best to get them all replaced as the rocker cover is off...
use a thicker and a better oil.

i dont want to stray of too much,
but the click noise could be possible the "injectors" not tappet.
just a thought as usually tappet noise u still here doesnt go away might quiten though. i notice the other day when i started car, injectors where bit noisey after the car sitting there for 2 days in the cold.
this has the same cause as u explain in the first post when u press the accel, rev it gets louder. also mine stop after 5 mins or so to no noise at all.
mighten be it might be . put ya ear near the injectors and tappet see if u can tell or use ya fingers for vibration this case a (click click)

I was going to mention the injectors as I was looking at replacing mine in the near future as they are getting a little noisy.
As to the hydraulic lash adjusters the description for how to test and renew these in my Haynes manual is quite simple. Not sure how easy it is in reality, but I am sure it is not too hard.
As someone mentioned I would be planning to do this with a few other things while the valve cover is off.

well the prob as gotten worse...
it clickin has gota louder, and turned from a click to a constant noise, similar to that of the sound wen somethin it stuck into a fan, and it gets louder as you accelrate, and it doesnt go away, it just gets quiet
shes goin into the mechanics tomorrow for him to look at it and it will prob get fixed on tues, im hopin and prayin this is a minor problem and wont cost me much
any1 got any idea wat it is??

the lash adjusters speed will increase as your engine speed does as they are part of what opens your valves...
Your injectors should not be anywhere near that noisey, should have to put a screw driver to ear and the tip on the injector to hear it pulsing...there are lash adjuster, valves etc directly below each injector...

Unless I missed it, and I don't mean to seem patronising, but you have actually checked the oil levels... right?
