Hey all,

Was talking to my mechanic mate and he reckons that magna boxes' are caca... I dont care what he thinks because so many people say this and that about magna and yet it has been the most reliable car ever for me. So im just wondering, who has the highest, or who has seen the highest kms on a 3rd gen magna gearbox? Auto and manual?

Your mate's full of caca. My TR manual box had done 210,000 when I sold it. Was totally flawless, never gave a hint of trouble, could probably do another 200k.

Edit: just realised this is in the 3rd gen forum. Oh well.

My 2nd gen has done 260,000 clicks on its first auto box, still going alright.

My 3rd gen has done 200,000 clicks on its first manual box, no where in sight will it need replacement, but the clutch is a different story (of my own fault).

***STUPID QUESTIONS***

How can you tell when a manual gearbox is on the way out?
What's the average life expectancy of clutches with NORMAL driving?

My TF 216,000kms auto box is still going strong. It might die eventually at about 260,000 but thats still a while away and i wont have the car by then.

When i had the TF, the auto trans shat itself at about 146,000ks, but there was something dodgey going on there. My TH had done 64,000 but its still flawless, hopefully it keeps working for years to come, dont want to pay $2700 for a recondition

damm that sucks photographer..

I suppose the life expectancy dependson how youtreat itmy patents TR got 168000kms on it before the clutch needed to be replaced ( actually come to think of it it was the clutch master cylinder not the actualclutch that needed replacing ) if you look after your trans and get it serviced as per scheduleyou should do alright.

For my TJ I was told a good full service every 100,000km's was good to make sure it kept going well.

My TH manual is on its 3rd gearbox in 5yrs. 1 was the standard box, the other one was with a LSD fitted. The current one seems to be doing better than the other 2 gearboxes.

Yep, bloody quick off the mark, revs it tits off and still handles great. When it was on a dyno the guys from dyno dynamics were really impressed the way it reved so easily.

Sold it in march to a mate and he is very happy with performance and handling.

Have upgraded to AWD TJ and slowly starting the build up.. already done the system, 18's and willl be lowering the car this weekend :)

Perfect timing for this thread guys because i think my gearbox has packed it in

driving to work thismorning and it started slipping abit at take off so i just took off alot slower from then on and it started slipping more, once moving gear changes where fine.

got to work

coming home

got about halfway and it started slipping dramatically i wsa having to take off like a *** deseased grandpa, takes about 20seconds to get to 50km/h any faster than that and itd slip
5 minutes later it started changing rapidly and the neutral indicater started flashing

i pulled over and when to turn on my interior light only to jerk my memory that it blew a few days ago, so reading my manual by my fully sic sony erricson built in light, it described neutral indicater flashing is a warning lamp for the automatic transmision, have it checked out by an authorised mitsubishi service centre as soon as possible, the automatic transmision is malfunctioning, i think the idiot who wrote that was malfunctioning, OBVIOUSLY i looked up automatic transmision because mine was malfunctioning, im not gunna look it up because i want a fries with my *** big mac

ANYWAY

i stoped for about 5 minutes and then started off again really slowly, after much coffufle and running of stop signs i managed to get home, JUST.

anybody know what the problem is and dont dare say its malfunctioning, im gunna take it into a transmision specialist tomoro morning but i thought id just check it out here first.

any ideas people.

help greatly appreciated.
