hey guys just wondering if u can use any other head for the 4G54 motor its in my l200 2.6 ute i live in NZ and i'm finding it a real mission to find a 4G54 cylinder Head just wondering if i can use the fwd magna $g54 heads maybe !? or they DOHC ? how much do 4G54 head go for there !? by the way shes carby, any help would be great thanks!
4G54 heads from Magnas can be used on any Mitsu 2.6. Varies in cost, but $200 should see you with a tested 2ndhander.
If you're keeping your carby manifolds, it should all pretty much bolt up.

the main differences in 4g54's is that some were wider in the head to block face and had an extra coolant gallery running the length of the underside of the head below the exhaust ports, it is open to the head gasket and has a coolant feed from the timing case for this.
If your head has this coolant grove in the deck face then the only OZ made head that will fit is from a OZ made sigma with a 4g54.
If your head does not have this coolant groove then any magna head should fit the block ok, but check that the magna manifold stud patterns are the same as the jap head first.
Another source of Jap 4g54 heads is Mazda commercial vehicles
Note: a magna camshaft extends about 10mm from the back of the head, but should clear the firewall in a RWD.(for FWD waterpump drive pulley)
